I wonderin how large of a prop it would take to overcome the magnetic field created by a 12v car alternater at speed. Also, dose a simple modificatin exist (short of rewinding the coils) to fix this?

Thanks' makourain,

               I'll take a look.
Looking around it seems that all electric motors can be used. I have a few old real to real tape decks, each has two.Are they suitable?

Try a google search for "tape drive windmill", will pull up heaps of windmills built using tape drive motors.
