Hi, Im just wondering how fast it is safe to spin a F & P motor? I am planning on spinning it with a 1HP induction motor, and would hate for injuries to occur from an almighty explosion as the weighty rotor lets go..... Cheers Niall |

From http://www.fisherpaykel.com.au/laundry/energy-saving-tips.cf m "Fisher & Paykel washing machines have a top spin speed of 1000 rpm" Since they're a direct-drive waching machine, thats the speed the motor is running at. For safety sake, probably better to keep it to 1000 RPM or so I dare say, but others may have anecdotal stories of running them up to insane speeds :) |

There are steel bands embedded in the hub, behind the magents. These would add a fair amount of radial strength, so I imagine they could spin up to a few thousand rpm before letting go. But that said, I wouldn't like to be nearby when it lets go. The real problem is once the F&P goes over 1000rpm its output starts to drop. The impedance of the coils at higher frequency ( rpm ) is dragging the efficiency and power down, so there would be no gain in going over 1000rpm.
