This came through today.. I thought theres a few people here who'd be able to help..

"ATA looking for member assistance with wind data analysis
ATA's Energy Team has a great opportunity for anyone interested in some short term work conducting wind data analysis.

We need help over the next two or three weeks with vetting and analysis of wind speed and direction data.

In addition, we have a number of existing and likely future wind monitoring projects which may require technical support.

As such, we'd love to hear from anyone interested who is available, interested in wind energy, and has at least moderate skills in the use of Microsoft Excel.

This is an opportunity to learn some specialist skills from a highly experienced wind engineer.

If you are interested in this work, please contact either:

Craig Memery on email Craig@ata.org.au or ph: 9631 5418
Damien Moyse on email Damien@ata.org.au or ph: 9631 5417
And thanks for continuing to support the ATA in building a sustainable future! "Edited by Steve9R 2010-05-06

I sent an email off last night asking for more information and have not received a reply yet.

Im guessing they are not in a hurry to get folks on board.

I contacted ATA prior to the first posting here and still have heard nothing.I attended on Thursday a protest outside State Parliament for the Climate Action Group about closing down Hazelwood power station.
Damien Moyse was on the original ATA email as a contact and also attending the protest,so I made a point of saying hello and asking about the request for help.I even had a set of blades to show my intentions were serious about wind. But he said they already had someone who could do Excel data recording and he would keep me in mind for later projects.

Going back to when Karl installed his windmill,I was offering my apologies to the ATA for not being able to attend after I'd offered to help with a wind monitoring site they asked for help with it in Sunshine.Turns out they had plenty of offers for help, but again no communication to say so.

Very lame.

Give them the flick i think.
I hate it when people wont reply to a email, is arrogrant.
This might even reflect their view.

Or just maybe this "highly experienced wind engineer" is not so highly experienced that hes afraid that some folks might no more than him.

I got a reply back today.

They commented.................

We didn't anticipate the level of interest that we received and
unbelievably, we received over 50 formal applications in three days!
The majority with at least some, and sometimes very high level of
industry, technology and data analysis experience. Ultimately, this was
for a short term position where we could only guarantee four days of
paid work.

.......................................

They made a short list of people and i was not on the list.

Cant say i was really that sorry i missed out.

What more i didnt even know they were paying for the work.

Latest Response
No good as I'm in Perth and they need people for Melbourne.
I recommended Jarbar as he's Melbourne unlike you Pete.

here is the 1st response I got -shortlisted

1. Are you available for a few hours this Thursday 13th May between 10am and 2pm for induction and training?
2. Are you available at least three days per week for next two to three weeks?
3. Can you detail specifically your knowledge of MS Excel?
4. Do you have a burning desire to work in Renewables? If so, can you expand on this?
5. Can you detail specifically your knowledge and experience of wind technology?
6. Do you have any electronic skills and experience? (If so, please document).
7. Are you happy to be paid at the casual rate of $24 per hour for undertaking this work?
8. What is your on-going casual availability after this short term project?

This was the latest response to wind analysis from ATA.Anthony.

Hi there,

Thank you for getting in touch with us regarding the short term wind
assistant work with the ATA.

We received over 50 applications in the first three days, the majority
with at least some industry, technology and data analysis experience. As
such, we haven't been able to get in touch with everyone individually by
phone or email. We do apologise for this.

We had to develop a shortlist from the applicants in those first three
days so unfortunately, we were not able to include you in the shortlist
this time round.

Thank you again for your commitment to supporting the ATA and to helping
out with this type of work. We are seeking to grow our technical
capacity with respect to small to medium scale wind projects and hope to
offer ATA members continued opportunities to work in this area in the
future.

Thanks again

Craig and Damien

Rant
And one might wonder why we don't bother buying the ATA zine these days. The last on we bought was so full of industry crap and it now really seems us DIY'ers are out in the cold as far as RE mags are concerned here in Oz.

Print media is going by the way side but if that Oz .ovt is intend on killing our economy then print media will be the mainstream again only if there is any money around to pay for the paper.

In the last 2 weeks I have mentioned the backshed website, forum and other RE sites to totally on-gridders and sofar the reports back some of my mates are asking about RE and how they can start.

I have talked with a local print house about producing a magazine but he basically said unless you have the big boys onboard forget it.

/Rant

Cheers Bryan

I put in a good word for Anthony perhaps they will get in touch

Good Luck.

On a brighter note (pardon the pun) I started with Bright Generation today.

good news is i'm going to love it!
Right up my alley.

Current generation sits a little too high off the roof which from a performance perspective is great but we need to work on the mounting solution as its complicated
and time consuming.

all good from the consumer perspective as currently a bargain given the mounting headache we're currently faced with (2 day install).

The extra height means performance is better than expected but hardware cost and time for install is looking steep thus if you're in WA get in quick before the price goes up

The solon panels we're using matched with the solar collector looks great on the roof
panels are the first frameless units on the market thus the great visual appeal and from an energy perspective covers the bases nicely.

Oh and the PVI-2000 inverter is a trick piece of kit!

Hi all,

I just registered with this website, and was a bit surprised to stumble on this thread. I guess three things stand out for me.

First, some of you are annoyed that it took up to a week to get back to all of the 60+ people who applied for the position. Having personally worked well into the night, unpaid, over a few nights just to make sure each of these applications (and some were many pages long!) got a fair look-in in the selection process, I can assure you that we busted a gut to get back to everyone ASAP. Still, I'm sorry for anyone who felt they were left in the lurch.

Second, with regard to shortlisting and carbon copy emails: as I said above, we had 60+ applications. There was a very high standard: we could literally have shortlisted 20 instead of 5, but that would have wasted 19 more people's time instead of 4, and THAT would be unfair. Obviously we had to choose one person in the end and it was a hard choice.

I think what concerns me most though - lets lay it on the table - is that there is underlying disappointment with ATA and/or Renew. Can we get some feedback here? Is this just in relation to wind energy? At risk of sounding touchy feely, I'd much rather find out what we (ATA) can improve or do differently. Feel free to post response here, or email craig@ata.org.au, or call 03 9631 5418 for a chat.

Cheers,

Craig

Welcome Craig. Don't be overly concerned at what you see a 'negatives' being expressed as such are always bound to occur in a vacuum (of information). I'm sure your input/interest will be appreciated by all.

While I've had no real contact with either ATA or Renew I have an (ill)informed opinion (based on one quick look!) that the magazine falls short in its reviews and I am aware that looking for information on as particular product in a review is very likely to disappoint as not all products of a particular type are known to the reviewer(s) and/or may not be considered worthy of inclusion.

Stiff upper lip, and heres hoping that your presence is profitable for everyone.Edited by neil0mac 2010-08-08

Hi craig,, I subscribed to Renew for a couple of years , but later in the period became disallusioned with the political and "green' articles.. The mechanical/electrical projects seemed to stop or at least ,slow down a lot.

Maybe you send me a recent copy and I'll re-consider my subscription ??

I even wrote an article on Fisher & paykel wind gennies for you. and your tech guy made one for the mag.

Cheers
