Good evening Shedsters.!! Just a quick question... I am spinning up a PCB for LOU that has the 44 pinner uMite with 2x16 LCD Display and wanted to drop in the PCF 8563 RTC chip. I was looking to put a SMD battery holder onboard but not sure which on would be best to use... I would need one that is as small as possible and uses a common battery type... Thanks in advance for any advice on this  |

Hmmm, which diameter? On one of my boards there is a CR1620 smd socket battery but that is quite big. Maybe a 1220? Thanks Vasi..! Humm... I see your on Eagle 6... I am still on v5xx... I need to upgrade soon... Damn, I just need more money and time..!! Actually I am trying this project as my first attempt of Auto Trax DEX... MAN, it sure has a very different UI than Eagle... Still trying to get the hang of it... It seems to be a good package though, especially for $50 bucks..! Still, it's a very young package yet... Anyway, I noticed you are using power feed-through diodes with the RCT.. Are they special types with low forward drop voltages..? Looks like the way to go with this.. Good idea..! I was also wondering about possibly using a 1 Farad super-cap instead of a battery... A few years back, when I was at Elcom Industries, I designed a RTC into a Rs-485 communication controller box and had a RTC that also supported the charging of the cap automatically in the chip. LOU has lots of these caps on the shelf as leftovers with the 32khz X-tal as well.. (I think)... @Lou - Hey buddy, could you check on the parts shelves if we still got that stuff..?
