Hi guys, Can anyone tell me if I can use a miniature (those are smaller that what we buy on online stores) crystal from a regular digital clock for a PCF8583 RTC? Are those standard, or there are different frequencies? Vasi Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

Vasi, You could try to scavenge one from an old (or cheap LCD/ electronic wrist watch) Regards, Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Thanks Mick, almost exactly what I asked (should have said watch ) - so, it is good. I scavenged one and soldered on the board. My board is almost ready, then I will make some tests before posting about it. Vasi Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

Sorry Vasi, Yes I thought you wanted a super small 32khz `rock'.. Yes saying watch would have made me see what you were really asking. As far as I know the 32kHz crystal is the only one (well 99.99%) that is used in clocks. mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Thanks Mick, it works indeed. Is a little faster and definitely needs a trimer for adjustment. A temporary solution, good for testing and firmware development, but not for final application, as there is not much precision. But now I'm able to continue my work (I've finally ported the PCF8583 library from avr-gcc to JALv2). Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |
