I found this while shopping at a large Coles supermarket for $5.80!! Really quite well put together, even comes with a 2GB SD card. It will play a 15 second MP3 when triggered by the remote door switch or full length MP3s when you push play on the touch panel. Eminently hack-able for projects!! This one was from a big Coles on Brisbane street in Ipswich QLD 
For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED. |

That's at Coles, which means they must have bought them at less than a dollar or two per piece in the lot. I've also seen recently other examples of ridiculously cheap electronics... How is that even possible??? http://rittle.org -------------- |

I agree but it was price reduced, I think the original price was 20 something dollars. There were at least ten of them on the shelf when I was there! The clincher for me was the 2G SD card inside. Either way it might be worth ducking into your local Coles if passing, they were in the battery aisle with the other cheap electrical gear. Another thing I saw today was at KMart, a bottle of kettle/jug cleaner solution was $7.50 - the same price as their home brand jug. Crazy stuff. - Rob. Sometime they reduce the price like this to get rid of old stock before the next model comes out. I'm always looking in the bargain bin for stuff like this, the other day I picked up a USB powered fan with led lights on the blades that spin and change patterns, for less than a dollar! And yeah, this door chime would be very hack-able I would think. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

I pickup a $4.00 Wii classic controller at my local Reject Shop. this I hacked and used to control my PICAXE robot. The controller came with the receiver unit which used I2c. Bill In the interests of the environment, this post has been constructed entirely from recycled electrons. |

Well, that was short lived. I went back today to grab a few for a mate and the "run out" deal had gone. The price was back up to $29. Looks like it was indeed a pricing error. For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED. |
