It is based on the RCA 1802. Look up COSMAC ELF.

I do remember using a similar 1802 trainer at college around 1974. I do also remember the massive manuals that came with it. (My first introduction to micro-processors and I think we had just finished studying valve theory)

Amazing time warp capture in the photo - the Elf that could use just a few hundred to a few thousand bytes, the Atari that handled not too many more but was a full blown microcomputer and finally in the top right, an SD card that can store gigabytes of memory. If someone had suggested needing gigabytes of memory (using a thumbnail size chip) they would have been laughed at I think.
Doug.

PS. I think the 1802 was the first cmos micro - intel, motorola, ti, signetics and others of that era were all had ttl style structure.

... almost all of the Maximites, the MicromMites, the MM Extremes, the ArmMites, the PicoMite and loving it!

Ahhh yes - the old 1040 ST - it was the big grunty follow-up to the 8-bit units, although, I have never owned one.

The precursor to the standard PC compatible starting with the 286 & 386 perhaps?

I still have my old 8-bit Atari 800XL, and I am pretty sure it still runs fine, but I just never have any need to use it anymore, as I backed up all my 5.25" floppy disks(the REAL floppy disks!) to PC image files, and when the need takes me, as it does from time to time even to this day, to play some of the old 8-bit Atari games, I can load the disk image files into an emulator and play the games via Windoze...

Link won't open for me, but perhaps the site is down at the moment.
I will try it again later.

An SD-card SIO disk drive is a clever idea!
Atari disks were 91K or 130K for enhanced density, even an old 1GB SD card would hold all the images you could ever want.

I still have a few boxes of unopened 5.25" floppy disks.

I used to program NEC APC HOx series and they ran MS-Dos on 8" Floppies.

Going through my bit box I have found a load of old chips which prompted me to buy the few that I do not have (Intel 4004)
I now have a complete collection of Intel microprocessors from 4004 to Xeon. Plus a few extra like the 1802, 6502, 6800, SC/MP. If anyone has a 2650 I'd be interested :)

Coding Coding Coding..

Anyone for CP/M-80?

Anyone got a PL/M compiler?

I wonder who owns the source code... I have a BDOS listing somewhere.
