What would be a good component to switch video signals? I'm finally getting around to fitting reversing cameras. I plan to have a switch in the cabin that will allow me to select between two camera views - one pointing down and one pointing back. The video will be displayed on an LCD VGA screen mounted on the roof. It has two inputs. One will be for the cameras, one for the MM. Can anyone suggest a good component to switch between the two signals? Preferably inexpensive, easy to set up, and robust. Any thoughts on whether a standard car relay would be suitable? James, one of my vehicles has a screen that is shared by the sat nav, radio, dvd and reversing camera. The switching of the reversing camera video is done by a 12v relay activated by the reversing light cct. |

That's a good link. Thanks. I'll try the 12V relay first and build a switch box if the relay gives a dodgy signal. I don't expect to need 8 inputs. Well, not yet. Then again.... I have 2 rear vision cameras. I could add 2 wing mirror cameras and a blind spot camera and sensor; then I could add a front and rear close range bumper camera for parking and use the last port for a GPS. Yes, it would be possible to use all inputs on an 8 port switch box. I think I'll start with the simple option first though. Hi Paceman, I made that assumption as all cameras that I know of are composite types, I have never seen a VGA output camera, but they may exist.
