Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

TinyBasic has been ported over to Rasberry Pi. It seems bit command limited when compared to MMBasic but it does seem to have a very similar BASIC Language format as MMBasic. So maybe there will be an opportunity to share code? http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/2277 I love this line: "we’ve also had a really surprising number of emails from parents who haven’t done any programming since school, but who still have books on BASIC from when they were kids, remember enjoying computing lessons, and want to share some of what they used to do with their kids" So not everybody wants C programming after all? In addition to this, there is now the Rasberry Pi ala mode plug in board to bring Arduino compatibility to the Rasberry Pi. http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/alamode-arduino-compatible- raspberry-pi-plate-p-1285.html So if you wanted to teach your kids BASIC programming and wanted to draw in color and wanted to interface to an Arduino shield and use programs from your old BASIC books, it seems like it would be easier to just use the Maximite color. Then you don't even need a computer to talk to it. This all getting very interesting. I sometimes feel like we are re-living the original apple II/TRS-80/Commodore days all over again as some discover programming for the first time and some are rediscovering it. www.elproducts.com |

Another interesting point with the RPi. Sparkfun is selling them at $39.95USD: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11546 They got 50, and sold out in an hour. My dealer price is $39.95USD. I know it isn't comparing raspberries with raspberries, but RPi retails at $39.95, Arduino adapter for shield footprint is $44.95, a total of $84.90 Or a DuinoMite-Standard with Arduino shield is around $23 BTW Thanks for the links Chuck. BTW2 Comments on the RPi site are very interesting. Guess they have never heard of the MaxiMite. Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

The reason I mentioned Sparkfun, was because it is the first time that they have been sold outside of the normal RPi foundation dealership, that has been set up with Element14/Farnell/RS. I was wondering if it was a deal struck up between the two, to test sales, as they said earlier they wouldn't be selling to other dealers outside of that network. Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Shame the Maximite doesn't get the same level of marketing and promotion as the Rasberry Pi. I see so much about the Pi but very little about the Max. Nick |
