Hi guys, the colour maximite is really great project. I had a lot of fun building it. So finally I decided to give it a "fresh modern" look, so I build stereo speakers inside the box, cut the panels from Acrylic, glued all together and here is the result: |

Great looking case but where did you get the Color Maximite kit? I've been watching the sources Geoff recommends and haven't seen anybody offering it yet? www.elproducts.com |

I get all the parts from a local stores, also order the PCB-s to local manufacturer (after all I live in city of Plovdiv (Bulgaria), where OLIMEX and many other engineering companies are near by) :-) In fact I have two Colour Maximites assembled (the PCB manufacturer minimum quantity was two PCBs), so I can sell one if you or anyone else want for 60 EUR (assembled in acrylic box, as seen on this post). I'll take it. Can I paypal you the money? Maybe send me a private email to chuck@elproducts.com so we don't bother the forum with this. www.elproducts.com |

What about static buildup? Microblocks. Build with logic. |

What a knock out piece of kit, and from a user with limited resources. Really looks good. Top job. Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Thanks Don, I would say "with NOT so limited resources" :-) Alter all I run a small company for manufacturing of CNC Routers and other custom made machinery (www.mtech-bg.com), so I have laser cutters, cnc routers and a lot of other equipment, and I am able to do my hobby, which is building electronic gadgets. |

Don bites a `cherry pip' again.. Good work Skartalov, I wish I had access to your `limited' resources... Great work, you should built a few cases and offer them for sale, might put a few extra beers on your table. I especially like the colors, (red and Black) suits my favourite aussie rules football team (Essendon Bombers). Now I would expect to cop a lot of flack.... Very impressive! The only area for improvement would be a quick release top so that it can be easily opened to utilize the Arduino connector. What about a clear (or tinted!) top cover so that the innards are visible? Then, a blue LED added to illuminate the inards! Nick |

That's impressive for a "hobby"!! I bet Geoff would like one of those if you have any spare. Shows his work is very much not in vain. John |

Then, a blue LED added to illuminate the inards! Nick Wow, this should refer to the future version of the MAXIMITE, probably with dual core processor :-) |

I never thought about it. I have build many different devices in acrylic boxes and no problems. Acrylic is one of the materials that can have a lot of static buildup. ABS is somewhat better. It is one of the reason most standard boxes are made from that material. One of the easy signs is the amount of dust it attracts. Also rubbing it lightly and then holding it next to your arm, you will see the hairs on your arm being attracted. Another way is to hold the material close to slowly running water out of a tap. Chips are sensitive to static discharges, to protect against that it would be best to start without materials that allow static buildup but if you have to you can protect the insides with a thin grounded metal sheet. The chances that there is a static buildup and a discharge is not that big, especially when you handle the housing knowing it is is capable of holding a static charge. I think tere are even sprays that can be applied to prevent static charges Most static charges are caused by rubbing, and i don't see people rubbing their boxes. :) I live in Thailand where air humidity is high, in those conditions the acrylic has more difficulty holding a static charge. But if you are in a drier climate i would not leave out that metal shielding. My favorite material is aluminum and anodize it to get the colors you want. After that is out of the way. :) It is a really nice box and a good color scheme. I have a suggestion, that is to remove the top screws and replace them with small magnets on the corners and maybe more along the sides for support. The top will then be removable. If you use some distance holders and an extra layer of the red sides you would be able to stack a shield on the print and raise the height of the box. With magnets it would be easy to open and close. Also a transparent top would be nice as a choice for people who want to show off what is inside. Microblocks. Build with logic. |
