Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Perhaps a little off topic, but I'm guessing there is probably a fair bit of interest in a new sub $1000 3D printer that will be available very soon:

I saw it at a conference in Sydney this week. They also have a more expensive model that prints at a slightly higher resolution. I nearly ordered one, but they wouldn't negotiate on price and didn't have any in stock I could take home on the plane last night.

Check out this video announcing the PRINTRBOT Jr. from PRINTRBOT.com.

https://vimeo.com/42419641

At the 12:15 mark in the video he starts talking about the PRINTRBOT Jr which he says will sell for under $400. It's a kit but at that price its well worth putting together yourself. He shows the first prototype and it looks awesome. Small and compact for easy hauling.
These things are coming down in price quickly.

I don't like the trend that they are getting smaller. The electronics needed are about the same a few inches more for the threads won't break the bank.
I would love one at least 60x60 cm working space, and maybe 30 or more height.
Then you can make interesting stuff.

Oh well, have to build one of my own i guess. :)

Here is a list with price and build size + links to most of the 3D printers .

I am waiting for a $500 one with 60 x 60 cm

Cheers.

Theory is when we know everything but nothing work ...
Practice is when everything work but no one know why ;)
