Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but when people quote computer languages they use/used, I often wonder about the origins, and what the language is like. I found this which explains a lot as a simple overview. I would think that Basic should be soon having MMBasic as a development on it's line! Especially with 3.2 (thanks, Geoff!) - Rob. For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED. |

It is a bit of a worry when you see some languages that you count yourself as proficient in are listed as obsolete or endangered (eg, PL/1 and Pascal). Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

What happened to Autocoder? It didn't seem to rate a mention. My first job in IBM Data Centre in 1970 was to port a customer's Autocoder application to PL/1. Wow, that was a while ago. Hugh |

But, I must admit , you are smart guys , I can't even understand what ya talkin "bout".. Sometimes , I pick up a thread on ,say, controllers , . But the "fly the next spacecraft" well , it's beyond me .. Back to my makita disc grinder, mig welder , lathe, mill and maybe a few cables to crimp ... Hope you don't take it too serious... Bruce. You folks mentioning PL/1 reminds me that I once attended a 3-day PL/1 course in early 1968 that was taught by an IBM rep. Strangely, my only project using PL/1 was to write an assembler for DEC PDP-8 computers in PL/1. The assembler was then used to generate a couple of PDP-8 programs. I believe that was the only thing for which I ever used PL/1. |
