Hello. I'm thinking of using an SD card adaptor (large one with a slot on the back for a micro SD card) and soldering it straight to the ubw32. I can then use this as a micro SD slot without having to buy a proper, hard to find and expensive card reader. But looking at the scematics, D4 and D5 (card present, card write protect) look as if they goto some kind of switch on the card reader. Could I just connect these to ground to make them active? Thanks.

Go ahead.

Write protect shouldn't be a problem, there's no WP in micro SD cards anyway. The Card Present shouldn't be a problem *IF* you leave the card in permanently, otherwise the MM will keep reporting SD card problems.

For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED.

Thanks for the fast reply. I'll connect them both to ground and ONLY remove/replace the SD card with the power off. Hopefully that should do the trick. I'll let you know if it works.

I finally got around to fitting my make-shift SD card reader and it worked first time!
D4-'Card Present' was connected straight to ground.
D5-'Card Write Protect' was left disconnected.
As aargee said, by permenently connecting D4 to ground would cause problems if the card was removed, I can ONLY remove/replace the card if the UBW32 is switched off, I was thinking of fitting a small toggle switch to fix this problem.

Thanks. Dave.

One job that has been on my todo list for a long time is to reliably detect when a micro SD has been removed. I have had a few tries at it but so far nothing has proved reliable enough.

If anyone has a solution please let me know.

UPDATE.. It turns out you DO need to connect D5-'Card Write Protect' to ground!
I tried saving to the card today for the first time and it said the card was write protected. All sorted now.
