Hi,

I was just buying some bits and pieces on ebay and from the same seller I noticed these:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400233274877?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I had already bought a few things and as it was so cheap and I have never tried experimenting with something like this before I thought it may make a nice small display for the hand held pendant on my CNC machine.

Has anybody ever used one of these before or something similar and can give me some tips to start off from, I believe it is controlled via an SPi protocol and there are quite a few code examples etc around the net for it, but all in C languages which I cant code, but reading them it seems fairly straight forward.

Well it comes from China so I guess I have at least a couple of weeks to research.

Any advice and tips etc are greatly appreciated.

btw I am using a maximite SM1.

thanks,

Andrew

Viking Boy-

I've played with similar little screens and can perhaps give some hints if not a ready to run solution. These displays have been on the surplus and hobby market for a few years. Their original purpose was for use in Nokia candy bar phones like the 31xx, 51xx and 61xx series. Originally they were for replacing broken screens phones but over time, people hacked them and they became sort of a hit. They are smart displays that include an LCD driver chip- all you have to do is to feed them I2C signals. This was nice for Nokia becuase they could make monochrome and color versions of the same phones by just changing the LCD module. I've used the monochrome ones only- they use a Philips I2C LCD driver chip and these do too (this is what makes them compatible for color/B&W swap). Spark Fun sells similar displays and has been kind enough to act as a information repository for these things. Here is a similar product with lots of good links. I suspect a little digging will get you to somehting that will give you enough to write some MMbasic around.

I'll dig around and see if I can find some more but I suspect others have played with these and will chime in.

Have Fun

Hi,

Thanks very much for the info, I had already found the sparkfun info and its very useful.. I am working my way through it, It is still mostly above my head, but slowly I think it is coming into focus :)

I will keep updates as I go.

Any further specific experiences on using this type of screen on maximite or any other useful information is much appreciated.

thanks

Andrew

Hi ,

I just see your post
Long time ago i made a drivers for this little screen.
It was this one from Sparkfun :
LCD 6100
The code was in CCS C for a PIC18F4680
But you can convert it for all other CPU for sure

Here are the source and a Breakout game example.

Did you give her a ring?

(I hope that worked here. Nothing gets lost in translation like puns.)
