When I first heard about Dontronics DonDuino Patch board for Arduino connections I frankly didn't get it. I usually just modify code or modify in a different way. Then I started to realize this could be a handy additional shield to own. I'm a bit slow at times. Apparently others figured it out also as there is now another shield doing the same thing called the Go-Between shield in a surface mount way. I think the DonDuino patch has more options like connecting an analog pin to a digital pin but its nice to have shield options. I do like the way they used surface mount connecters on this new design. I think this technique could create even more interesting adapter shields. Don and company were ahead of the curve. Thanks Chuck, It was one of those mechanisms that Geoff was interested in also for simple address re-configuring, and I was going to do it with an in-line adapter board for 26 pin IDC cable, but when you spoke to me about Arduino, the DonDuino Jump just fell into place. I sent Mick two emails on the subject, he returned them, and we had the design in a PCB layout, a couple of hours after it was envisaged. Of course, it can be used on any standard Arduino Shield system. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Hi Chuck, I know we had some trouble explaining our purpose for the patch to you, I suppose Don and I (to steal Steve Ciacia's line - From BYTE mag.) "I program with a soldering iron" and not with code explains why we both thought it would be handy, sure we didnt realise the methodology of the Arduno world, but that didnt matter as we could still use Arduino shields on the Maximite (for which this was designed) Don came up with the concept I designed the layout and the R/A header arrangement. I am intrigued by the other patch board... it would need some good soldering skill to patch lines onto those small `hole-less' pads. But yes its great to have variety and also great we weren't the only ones to see this need. regards, Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Mick: They are an array. You just need to make solder blobs. One unique blob for each row. Micromites and Maximites! - Beginning Maximite |
