I have a Maximite SM1 installed and working on my PC. I'm attempting to install the Maximite on a 2nd PC. I download the MM driver from Geoff's page. Extract the file to a folder. Click on device manager, select marked unloaded driver. Click on "update driver" and the PC begins its search. Does not find it. I then direct it to the folder I installed it. Does not find driver. Suggestions? Thank you |

Elchucko you are confused ... you do not install a Maximite you attach it to your PC The bootloader is not a driver it is application Double click on the bootloader file and it will install on your PC it really is easy if you take a few minutes to read and follow the instructions have a try Keith The more we know, the more we know we don't know ! |

OK, I thought the 'Boot Loader' was used to re-flash the firmware, i.e., v2.7 in the Maximite itself. In order to do that, it has to have a usb driver for the device loaded into the PC? When I first plug in the Maximite to a 'cherry' PC, the PC notes it found new hardware and then attempts to load a driver. It can't find the driver. Yes, I am confused. |

Hi have you read the PDF file that comes with the driver 2011-11-27_140742_Installing_the_USB_Serial_Port_Device_Driv er.pdf In the interests of the environment, this post has been constructed entirely from recycled electrons. |

Ok ... I'm replying blind because you haven't listed your windows software ie Windows 7 If you are running XP etc then Geoff lists some files that you may need to install. Down load the full version update file from Geoff, that is 2.7B with manual located at http://geoffg.net/maximite.html Go to Downloads and the the 3rd line "Maximite MMBasic Update V2.7B (to be loaded into the PIC32 chip via USB) Includes a copy of the Maximite User Manual and the bootload program" ... click on "Download" Unzip the file and in the contents is a PDF document "Loading New Firmware" follow this info to the letter and you should be ok. I have just updated mine and I followed the instructions .... I have Win7 32 and when I plug in the USB from the Maximite and WIN7 automatically loads the USB drivers which takes a little while about 1-2 minutes depends on the speed of your PC. Thanks Bill re the Silicon Chip USB Driver That step I had completely forgotten ... sorry Elchucko .... done once and "out of sight and out of mind" till you go to another PC. I note that Geoff makes no mention of it in the loading new firmware documentation which I have just read for the first time in months. I assume it must have been in the Silicon Chip articles which I haven't used since I put my Maximite together. Geoff .... maybe you can update your "Loading New Firmware" document. regards keith The more we know, the more we know we don't know ! |

Hi Bill, Yes I read the install driver pdf file. The process didn't get past the step where the PC searches for the driver. It never finds it. I did download the driver zip file and extracted it to a folder then pointed the folder after connecting the Maximite to the PC. The PC (Vista) does see a new device and attempts to load a the driver which it cannot find. So I think we are saying I need to download the MM firmware, use 'bootloader' to load v2.7B to the MM and during that process the usb firmware will be loaded? I'm using Vista. Thank you |

Elchucko go to this link http://geoffg.net/maximite.html scroll down the page to DOWNLOADS and download the 4th item "Windows Serial Port Driver (for connection to the Maximite via USB - Windows only)" Unzip the files and make a note of where you have them on your hard drive then follow Geoff's instructions in the PDF file contained in the same zip. Basically you'll have to point the window's driver program at the hard drive location you have recorded and it should do the rest if it doesn't do it automatically. You'll see a Slicon Chip USB device under devices in control panel when the Maximite is connected Keith The more we know, the more we know we don't know ! |

Elchucko here's what I see under device manager in Windows7 ... I've highlighted the item You may have to try a couple of times and disconnect the Maximite between tries before you get it to work .. I have encountered this with some other devices but not the Maximite. Once you see this item in devices (note the COM port number for future reference) then you can proceed with the bootloader application and updating the Maximite to 2.7B Keith The more we know, the more we know we don't know ! |

One more thing ... Do you have admin privileges to make changes?????? Vista was an absolute nightmare for this lock down, UAC etc and many other reasons I went nowhere near it along with all the driver problems. see this link http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_administrat ive_privileges.htm Keith The more we know, the more we know we don't know ! |

Hi Keith and Bill, I finally got the driver installed. I went over the steps I took several times. Each time when allowing Vista to find the driver it failed. I then directed Vista to the folder where the file was unzipped to and it found the driver. All is well after loading the driver. A real mess I made which such a simple process, remembering I did it OK on my other PC. It's obvious the process was directed to the wrong folder. Anyhow I want to thank Keith and Bill for your input! I've used many forums that cover a variety of subjects but I must say this forum is by far the most informative and supportive even for "entry level" folks such as I. Once again thanks guys! |
