I was in Perth a few weeks ago and thought I'd see if a Maximite kit was available to buy. I went to the new Balcatta store and no luck. But the young bloke said that the Perth store had one in stock. Cool! A phone call to the Perth store and a quick drive to the store and the Maximite was mine. But while I was in the store looking for more "toys" cool stuff to buy to take back home I could over hear the sales staff talking about the Maximite and how it should be sold for $300 or more with the demand that Altronics are having with the Maximite!
With an attitude like this towards there customers, all I can say is, lets support the alternate suppliers like Don and Olimex. It's obvious that Altronics are only looking to make a quick buck, and I wouldn't be surprised if they bump the price up again for the Maximite.

un beliveabe they really looking for a buck on this one considering the only labour is putting the chip on the board and flashing it..as well as some testing i would think ..but not shure about the latter and it does not take all day to throw one of those kit of parts ..speaking as a kit dept mngr 25 years ago... thanks for that regards sparkey...///...///also like to add that the board is the most expensive part and there have been peops selling boards and chip at a much cheaper cost..i`ll be sticking with dons gear from now on i think oh and also rohans gear....///...///Edited by sparkey 2011-10-25

Man, it's a good thing I got in when I did (I bought it at the original price of AU$79.95, which with postage, the SD card and the adaptor cost me about NZ$140 in the end!) It's a good thing for the future of the kit if other companies make the kit, because upping the price of an already overly expensive kit is just rude
Capacitance is futile - roll on 2012!

Not sure what website you are looking at Geoff, but http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=prod&grp=424 you can see the price on this page, bottom right corner.

And after logging onto the Altronics web site using my trade account, the Maximite is $79.95
So I got it at the old price by using my trade card. (which I only got when i was in Perth the day before I picked up the Maximite!)

They don't seem very organised.

If you click on "buy now", or "more info", it then shows a price of $79.95.

but then it also says:

PLEASE NOTE: We are experiencing a significant number of backorders for this product. Unfortunately we cannot offer any assurances of when stocks will be available. The first and second production runs have all been pre-sold. Further production runs are scheduled for July & August delivery.

Confused? I am.
Perhaps this means July & August 2012.

Cheers Don...

Well Altronics didn't have any MMs at the Perth CBD store on Friday afternoon, and did not know when there would be any in stock (not that I wanted to buy one). VK6MRG got his MM a few weeks back (according to the first post in this thread).
As far as trade discounts are concerned, I was offered a the trade discount on about $50 worth of bits cold off the street!
Still, I liked the store and wide stock range over my local Jaycar stores back here in Brissy.
For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED.
