You already do. Serial printers have been around since Adam was a boy. Plug one into one of the com ports and start sending characters. Regards Rohan Rohan Hamer HAMFIELD Software & Hardware Solutions Makers of the Maximite Expander. http://www.hamfield.com.au |

Hah, when I started school in Australia, I had to REGRESS to slate. I had already done grades 1 & 2 in the Netherlands with paper and pen/pencil. That was 1961. Regards, Bob Devries Dalby, QLD, Australia |

Hi Sparkey, On the 100pin variant you can have also a parallel port. It only needs support from MMBasic and then, you can list your basic program on a centronics printer. Vasi Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

I remember when I had my TRS-80, I adapted a serial WWII Baudot teletype to run, after going through a range of various serial teletypes, I eventually spent $599 I think it was, for a Tandy uppercase only line printer. But unless you need a printer for a specific real world application, I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would need a printer on a Maximite. Everyone reading this has a computer hooked up to the Internet, so they are more than likely have a printer attached, even if it is a $49 special. Therefore they have a means to print out program listings easily. If the Maximite was the only computer I had at my fingertips, then sure I would want a printer, but it isn't. Am I missing the obvious? Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Hi All Don, I can understand Sparkey's request, and that is to have a free standing Maximite with a printer. If you were doing data logging, it makes sense to print line by line of data to the printer. BobDeVries, I had my slate in Amsterdam in 1951. I still remember the pictures around the edge with titles under them 'Aap , Noot, Mies" Talk about conservation. no trees cut down for those school days, just a damp cloth and wipe your slate clean. Yes I agree DS, applications specific. But it still needs either the correct printer, or the correct drivers meshed into MM basic. Can you get a real ascii text only serial printer these days? I have never looked for one, but I guess they are available at a price. It isn't hard to spit a serial stream out of a UART in a print format complete with line feeds and carriage returns in the right spots, but you can't do it with something you will buy cheap at your local computer store. What printer are we talking about using? Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Yes, I use them for computerising Concrete plants. Epson have the LQ range still available. Regards Regards Hervey Bay Qld. |

Fair enough DS, Are they expensive-ish? I was just doing a google to see if anything was around. Would be nice to have an off the shelf unit for specific apps for the Maximite. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

I remember servicing the LQ's a decade ago! They were good printers, dot matrix, and very configurable. Invoice printers can also come with serial ports. Just did a quick search for serial printer on eStore, lots of results. http://search.estore.com.au/search#w=serial%20printer Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. Thanks Glenn, Would it be fair to say that a decent modern serial printer appears to start at around the $300-$400 mark? I remember years ago, getting a Dick Smith (I think it was) printer-plotter at about $99 that used little biro like nibs. Half expect to find it in a box around here somewhere. Yeah I had one of those. Printed on continous toilet roll sized paper. You could get it to draw lines and graphs and all sorts of stuff, great learning tool. I still have a few of the printouts, but the plotter is long gone. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Yes, that's the one I was hoping there was something about twice as good for about half the price that could be easily hooked up to Max. Might spent a few minutes on ebay. It can turn up some surprising results. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |
