Hi Sparky I take it you are refering to the picture of the speaker on fire on the front of this months edition of Silicon Chip magazine. Yes I agree, its highly unlikely they can catch fire, the voice coil will burn out but wont generate anough heat to start a full on fire in the speaker cone. Yep, they do catch on fire. Try putting 230 volts across them. Some cones just jump out and seize while others catch on fire. Try it sparkey. Kevin There's no such thing as a free lunch. |

Hi sparkey, I would love to set fire to your kevlar woven woffers. Two problems. 1. you live too far away and 2. Im pretty sure kevlar does not burn. In saying that, maybe we could douse your speakers with petrol. Hope that helps. Kevin There's no such thing as a free lunch. |

Hi All. If you read the article it mentions (somewhere) that the speakers did not catch fire during their test - but definitely burnt out the coil. It also mentions that to create the picture they used a gas torch (or lighter? I forget which) to ignite the speaker cone.... Regards Gerard (vk3cg/vk3grs) |

Hi All Anything can and will burn if Murphy is active and close by. In my little escapade recently one of my speaker boxes went up started by my battery charger, all I had left was a heap of molten metal from the speaker frames. All the best Bob Foolin Around |
