Great project Geoff. I am working on several projects using this magic machine, mostly using GPS units, but I have a few little questions that some may assist me with. 1. In one of the Silicon Chip articles, a picture shows connection leads from the Maximite to a 'breadboard'. Where can we get these leads from? 2. One of the articles mentions tying any unused I/O pins to either Hi or Low. Is this essential? Regards, Doug, The farmer |

dear doug the jumper leads that you are refering to can be obtained from dontronics....just go to one of dons threads and look up the dontronics shop there are several lead sets to chose from generally it is common when using a i/o pin to tie it well basically low and a value between 1 and ten k-ohms usully does the trick to hold the pin at a constant usully tied to ground ...u dont have to tie all the pins to ground and depending on your app lication ..hope this helps regards sparkey and welcome to the "shed" .... technicians do it with least resistance |

Thanks Sparkey. T'was what I was thinking about tying the pins. I guess it's to stop any possibility of an emf spike killing parts of the chip. I went to Altronics and Jaycar recently (about 450km from home) but they had nothing of the type. Our local DSE is now looking more and more like a H/N (brand name) retail, the only parts they had was fuses. So sad. I'll try Don and see what he can supply. Thanks again for the answer. Doug. In a former life, I was an electrician, and wired many a mud brick house. Lots of fun trying to get wiring and fittings to stay put on the bricks, especially an old home where you didn't have channels for cable runs in place. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Doug, Would love to build a mud brick house, planning that or a hay bale place in our ten year plan. First would be to build an electronics workshop as a trial... How did it go? - Rob. For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED. |

Rob, Maybe we could start a new forum for Mud Brick etc. type houses. Would be glad to discuss & upload photo's, or email me. This house was to be our music studio, but after the drought no money left to build the 'real' house. Don, wired all myself under lic'd supervision (my sparkey permit expired). Order for jumpers is with the cheque. Thank's Sparkey for the info regarding GPS's. The chips I am using will be integrated with the Maximite in a very rural, remote, dusty and vibrating setting. Just waiting to get the parts to make the 12v vehicle P/S (much like Geoff's Car GPS) so nothing gets fried. The programming is based on 2.6 for the com port, but there is also a lot of pc programs to make it all work. Doug. The Farmer thenuggetblock@avtiv8.net.au |

If I get enough interest I would be happy to add it. So long as members thinks there would be enough post activity to warrant it. Nothing worse than a subject area that nevers gets a post, like the EV section of the forum. Would need a scope of discussion. Like building, renovating, plumbing, insulation, etc. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

I would like that. It was a time when acquiring a lot of plans, images and web addresses from the web regarding to subject. It would be great. -------------- An EV project is very expensive.
