Mick has my Olimex proto (DuinoMite) boards now, so he will have to follow through on this.

I'll be out of it for about 3 weeks, have to visit children and grand children in Darwin. But I will be on email still.

Good luck with it Ken.

Cheers Don...

That is a great board.
Olimex expander, Maximite expander, Arduino Headers, keyboard and VGA connectors, SD card!
What more could you ask for?..................Price and where can I get one.

Also on board CAN, RS-232, 2 types of audio jacks, composite video, USB-OTG, 9-30V DC input, and provision for battery backup.

OH, and we are still kicking around RTC with battery backup on board.

When? We hope to settle on a final schematic this coming week.

Price? I have no idea. It may come out in various versions as I believe the CAN alone is expensive, and if you never use it, then why have it?

If you want it later, then the footprint will be there so you can add later, or you should be able to buy a new fully populated board.

Still a few items to be sorted, but Ken is doing a grand job porting the firmware.

Bootloader VID/PID IDs will be different, so you will need a new bootloader hex file, booloader.exe file, serial driver, and then the firmware. Ken also has to provide files for various platforms, so he has his work cut out.

I have Dons full set now and they are up for AUCTION .. Well when Don is away for 3 weeks to give me a chance to run...

Truthfully, (for those that cant see my winking eyeball), No they are not really for auction..

Seriously I think they will probably be a month away.. But with what I have seen already it will be well worth the wait I reckon..., The proto's dont have RTC and we are toying with options/practicallities here, I think we would all agree its better to delay a week or so and get a better product than rush to market and be always wanting...

As to prices That is best up to Don but from what I have heard bandied around I think you will be very happy with them.

Regards,

Mick

PS. The proto's are all locked in a safe with 10ft thick steel walls and protected by 101 burly security guards and 1 maltese terrier.

One of the neat things of the DuinoMite-Mega and the DuinoMite is they have Li-polimer chargers on them so they can run on a Li-polimer pack.

Would you believe a broken beer box, a drunken sailor, and a sleeping Chihuahua pup on top of the box?

I'm staring at the two images Ken posted... the small board is looking good as it is, green color, but the bigger one should be blue or indigo (not red! in my opinion, red is good for small boards) and that helps in "moving" the board away from the group of regular "motherboards".

I can't find the email now, but I thought Olimex were talking purple.
I may have been wrong, we will see.

They can be Polka Dot for all I care....

I just want one....

But seriously, Asthetics can be appealing, I reckon we should consider the options but we might be bound by what Olimex want to use, it may be they are run with another batch of PCBs and we get what they are using on the day.

Mick

As mentioned earlier in this thread, we were going to place RTCs on all the DuinoMite boards, but the DM and DM-Mini basically don't have enough room to do this without major surgery.

The DM-Mega does, so it was decided to leave it off all boards, and add it as a UEXT standard add-on board.

This should be a reasonably cheap add on, and fairly readily adapted to a standard Maximite.

Hi Don,

The smaller boards will (and DM use an extension already) use add-on boards anyway, and the bigger one will have a bigger price than the two anyway. Let the bigger one having one more reason to buy it. You don't break any standard, the clock will use same pins for interfacing (you can disconnect it by a jumper?)... I suppose...

I would put the clock on the board but you guys knows better.

There is a little more to it than that also Vasi.

We want a little ram in the RTC, so we can have extra flags, at a fixed memory location for Duinomite.

So the choice of RTC has not only been price driven, but also feature driven.

Basically it has got to the stage where Olimex need to know if they have to buy in lots of 2000, or 6000 for good pricing. I kid you not.

We have to make sure the RTC we choose, will run the software we want it to, so we need to prototype some boards and test.

If we wait longer for these decisions, then the boards are delayed, and so it goes on.

It is a matter of how long you wait for all the items to be locked in place, or do you do an RTC on a standard header on all boards, as this now is the only thing holding us up with the final design.

Incidentally, being I2C, you can daisy chain 100+ other I2C boards, as well as serial and SPI on the same socket. You just need to multi-drop (crimp more connectors on) the flat ribbon cable.

BTW
Instead of a link for VGA-Composite select, Ken came up with the idea of reading one of the VGA monitor ground return pins to select. We are currently testing that on all three boards.

I'm just getting more and more excited.
I know what I'm getting for Christmas!

Maximite/CHIPkit - Arduino/TRS-80/Embedded computer that can accept Maximite expansion boards, Arduino shields and Olimex modules.
You may call it a Duinomite but I call it a Du It All.

You can also put the resistive mixer for composite out in the vga plug and put a rca socket in the back of the shell.
