Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Cool. I have some genuine TRS-80 "4K RAM" case badges somewhere, if I can find them you can have one for all this effort. Rob unzip, strip, touch, finger, grep, mount, fsck, more, yes, fsck, fsck, fsck, umount, sleep |

Cool! Is the firmware available for download and usable on the Maximite? I've lost interest in my Maximite and would like to turn it into a TRS-80. This will open the door to all the TRS-80 software available on it including all the M/L games I wrote for it back in the 80's |

As I mentioned, I've kinda lost interest in the Maximite. Guess I'm not one for using it as a hardware interfacing tool. I do like the idea of a Maximite as a TRS-80 hardware emulator. Opens the door to so much software from Operating Systems, Wordprocessing, Spreadsheets to Games. Those ex-TRS-80 users amongst us can remember the fantastic games from Big Five and the great stuff from Wayne Westmoreland and Terry Gilman such as Eliminator and my favourite... Sea Dragon! Would be some great memories to revive and relive. Hopefully, this TRS-80 emulator will expand to the hires board emulation. The Maximite is a natural as a TRS-80 emulator and, for me at least, will provide me with more use than with Geoff's MMBASIC which has a software base I can count on two hands. If Only Silicon Chip made a monthly Maximite column and given this Australian product more chance of exposure. |

Nick, Have you seen this website? microbee I know it's the opposition, but it looks like they are going to re-release the Microbee computer. Maybe with enough interested people like yourself, the TRS-80 could do the same. Its easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission! ............VK6MRG.............VK3MGR............ |

Yes. Not enough info released as yet but the fact that they have licensed everything, they could create a good retro revival movement. I was a TRS-80 man but I do like the idea of supporting home grown product such as the Microbee. I have a soft spot for the TRS-80 because it's the first computer I ever owned and got my teeth into it from BASIC to Z-80 Assembly Language. It would be good to have all my programming efforts for it available in a pocket system like the Maximite. |

It would be cool to have a TRS-80 in a old school case but running 21st century technology! PIC 32 with SMD components, lookalike ROM pack with an SD card instead of ROM, or lookalike floppy drive with a SD or CF card. And an optional expansion port for whatever (CAN, RS 232, I2C, SPI etc.) All this running a TRS-80 DOS or a form of MM basic. Hell, I buy one! Its easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission! ............VK6MRG.............VK3MGR............ |

I wouldnt call us "the opposition" really, we are NOT releasing the new Microbee, Microbee Technology P/L will be. All we have is a licence to legally distribute Microbee Software and documentation from Microbee Technology P/L. At the MSPP our primary aim is making available as much information & resources about the Microbee and any other Australian built vintage computer such as the Applix 1616, Super-80, Excalibur, Dulmont Magnum, etc etc. So if anyone here can help out with anything, it would be much appreciated. There has been a few new members joining our forum in recent times with connection to the Maximites and if we can be of any help, we are only too happy to help as much as possible. There are currently 3 active Microbee emulations (ubee512, nanowasp & MESS) to run on a PC, so any other hardware emulators would be great to see. I have no idea what a Maximite is (I'm not into electronics :D ) but if we can help with anyone wanting to emulate a Microbee on it, I'm sure we can help in some way. Cheers, cm |

The Maximites MMBasic has a lot more in common with the Microbee than the TRS80 in my opinion. Like a lot of people I started on the TRS80's, but as soon as I had a job I saved up for a Microbee. The Bee was a much more powerfull machine than the TRS80 at that time, better graphics, more ROM/RAM, I/O, etc. For a couple of years there EA and ETI would publish a Microbee based project every couple of months. I've ported a couple of Microbee programs to the Miximite. MMFour and MMPrey ( in the Maximite samples download ) are both from my Microbee days. MMFour is based on the Microbee Connect Four game, and MMPrey was a port from the Apple originally. I found the Maximite Basic very similar to the Microbee's, and porting the programs was a fairly straight forward process. The Bee still has better program editing functions than the Maximites current EDIT command, plus I do miss the AUTO command, but the way Geoff is going I think it's only a matter of time. The Maximite also has a similar graphics ability to the Microbee, 480X432 compared to 512X256. Geoff has recently added programmable fonts, which is an improvement over the Bee's PCG graphics. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
