Anybody got a UBW32 board they're tired of playing with? Even a blank PCB would be useful. Cheap preferrably.

Not quite... I'm going to try and modify MM Basic to roll in the extra I/O pins but it does mean a bit of a learning curve with the programming tools. It's a;; time and motion at the moment, no time therefore no motion!

The UBW32 is quite happily running MM Basic in its native form at the moment though.

What have you got in mind, Rob?

Need one to experiment with the Master Port functionality.

I may just get some boards made.

I went ahead and got a batch of 10 made. If anyone needs a blank UBW32 board, they'll be $7.50 shipped and available in about 2-3 weeks.

Would love to grab 2 - pm'ing now.. [edit: er, seems your mailbox is full..]

Main reason is to test my ability to solder the IC.
Does anyone have any comment on the best method to solder a TQPF package? Maybe I am being paranoid but the lead pitch scares me..

I was thinking of using paste / hot-air from a butane iron. I used this method with good results some years ago to produce hundreds of small boards with a few SOIC packages.
I have an RF iron with a needle tip which I have also used for SOICs - any comments on this for the TQFP?

I am about to make about ten boards with a pic32 - if I cant solder the IC I'll have to use a pre-populated ubw32 as a breakout board. urgh..

cheers,

Hi Diz,

Thanks for the warning about the mailbox, it's now empty again.

I can hold two for you, no problem. Soldering them isn't too bad, the main trick being to tag a corner with the iron then thoroughly inspect from every side to ensure pins align to the pads befor continuing.

Rob

Five boards assigned (plus two for me) leaves three more up for grabs!

The UBW32 boards are now here. I have 10 available for sale, less 5 already committed leaves 5 more if anyone wants them $7.50 posted.

If no replies by Saturday I'll be putting the remaining PCBs on eBay.

FYI. Thanks to Don's help I am working on a port of the Maximite firmware for the UBW32.
It will have 50 external i/o pins accessible from within MMBasic.

I plan to have it finished in about 4 weeks.

Argee,

Replied, your wish is my command. :-)

I've put one board on eBay to test the waters, so there are TWO left now.

Built my two boards up last night but got stumped by the lack of some 10k SMD resistors, which I've now ordered.

This design could be simplified a lot, for instance if the intention is to only ever power it from USB then you can omit a regulator, a socket and a selector IC along with various associated parts. Also, using a fixed 3.3v regulator allows two resistors to be deleted. The only tactile switch really needed is the prog. switch and the LEDs are superfluous.

Mostly I used parts left over from the Maximite so there are big caps and a crystal standing off the board. Looks odd but I expect they will work.

All boards have been shipped, and the one I put on eBay sold within 3 hours. I'm still holding two more until tomorrow night in case we have a latecomer who needs one.

Rob (and anyone else interested),

I got your boards about a week ago, 'sampled' two 32MX795's from Microchip and the rest of the parts from Digikey using the Bill of Materials from Brian Schmalz's UBW website. Just didn't want the hassle of searching for every little bit separately, and then (probably) guessing they were the right ones.

It's the first time I've used DigiKey and what a pain in the a$$!! They wanted me to prove I was the real deal, down to me sending them a copy of my driver's license (or Passport) - DNA testing will be next...

Freight's, a bit high at $30, but it is a flat fee and free over $200. The package will be here Monday or Tuesday after being sent on Friday.

Have soldered one of the 100 pin packages to the board, using a flux pen and no extra solder, just the tinning from the PCB, and it seems to be fine.

Regards,

Rob

Hi Benjamin,

Sold the last one on eBay on the weekend, sorry. If I get any more made I'll announce it here.

haiqu,

Can you tell me where you have bought your PCB ?
I plan to modify a bit the original design of v2.6 and buy 10 boards at http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/fusion-pcb-service-p-835.ht ml?cPath=185
The cost is (5cm x 15cm) 34.95US$ for 10 boards with 50% of board tested.

Best Regards

Hi,

I have just bought 10 UBW32 v2.6B+ PCB with minor modification (Larger wire), moved a bit some components and fixed conflicts and added my blog on the board.

If anyone is interested I will buy 5 PCB when I will receive them.

Best Regards
Benjamin
