i have never really done any smd soldering .. well a little but with a iron tip that is lucky to be about 2mm ..its very difficult so i just brought a solder station with "point two MM tip"... question is will this be fine enough.....
i hope so when it comes to soldering new chips onto maxi boards...

:i worked for errisson i was charge hand of 441 radio base broadmeadows
so it`s not a matter if i can solder i can solder standard components from the top of the board with multi layer pcb`s just after some reasonable opinions of this iron its an altronics iron station... dont know the part number off hand but will post it shortly ...regards sparkey///model T-2416......Edited by sparkey 2011-08-26

Hi Brian.

That soldering iron will be fine (though I would prefer the 80W model - the extra heating capability is useful when soldering to large round planes etc). For SMD work the 45W model will be fine. And I see they have concave tips available - which are great for soldering a number of pins without having to keep adding solder for each pin.

As always, with SMD soldering FLUX is your friend!!

And any bridges can be cleaned up easily with solderwick.

Welcome to the world of SMD - once you get used to it you will find that leaded components are a pain - all those leads you have to chop off!

Thye soldering iron I use most often at home (I seem to have quite a few of them...) heats up in less than 6 seconds - which I have grown to love and now hate waiting for slower irons....

thanks gerard well looks like you people r going to have to wait another fortnite for pics i just been all over this side of town and one bloke stiffed me cause he said he had the cable wrong...i will get an orig from wes next order they do have after market but out of stock normally i would have just orderd as per usual r well next fort i should have quite a few pics ready to up load i dont have a web server or a site but i already got about 10 pics of some of the stuff i have how do i actully load a pic is it just cut and paste ive never done much anything like this oh yes ..gerard that will be iron number five...regards sparkey....

these are the first ever time i have attempted this done under duress conditions my inverter spread all over the bench hope this satisfies till i can get a hang of this

Hi Sparky

I have to say its good to see some projects starting to show up based on the Maximite.

Well done, though you may need to clean the lense of the camera, its a bit blury.

and for those wondering yes in this state it works fine as i am running it at present ...regards sparkey and yes when more parts arive i wil have it all neatly put together and take it out side in the light and take some completed picks for ya ....Edited by sparkey 2011-08-26

I've got no idea what you're showing here but if it's your inverter design it does look like the basis for a good pyrotechnics display - be careful with the bench clutter when working with lethal voltages.

peop`s who know me always expet my work`s looking like this in prototype state

the low voltage is 36 volt per winding so yes the main buss flots around 40
volts and the 240 is directly connected to a four way gpo.... and yes 40 volts does have a bit of a tingle...wait till u cop a belt of the back of a picture tube
crt .... much the same as chewing on a spark plug lead....

this is an ev board connected to a once preamp now my camera switching relay board set to autorun and of it goes switching between five inputs can also be used for different opp`s regards sparkey sorry about the focus but its there ....they are miniture 5 volt relays powerd staight from the ev 5 volt rail.. so there only good for low voltage app`s so dont think your going to be able to put hv/high current throgh them then you will have pyrotechnics....Edited by sparkey 2011-08-27

::: here is something i put together mixing parts from don and rohan its a sm1 joined to dons cross and shield connecting to rohans hub joined with a four channel input board and a four chanell output board...regards.....
