Recompiled Maximite 2.5 removed all video and keyboard code (didn't need it)
Changed code from SD card to Usb flash drives
By removing SD card and Video opens 2 serial ports plus lots of other i/o pins
Changed Bootloader to load new firmware off usb drive :)

one sm1 "tctec "Edited by sparkey 2011-07-31

I feel like all good hackable items, the Maximite may well lead an avalanche of modifications.

People have access to the hardware and source code.

Nice work Ken,

Cheers Don...

Well done Ken

That is awesome work which opens up another evolution of the Maximite. Creativity in action!

I'm sure that we will probably have another design of main board which will give us more of the pin outs sometime in the near future and maybe even use the 100pin version of the PIC32. Any takers?

Ken, are you going to put the hex code up on site?

ok so you turn the unit on as well as having the bootloader switch depressed then ..i guess that it automaicicly lodes the hexfile that is on the usb stick and executes this all in that matter or am i in correct here

I agree, very nice. The Maximite platform lends itself very well to being a hacker space!
For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED.

Yes don 31 and 32 are uart2
and if you disable video and remove R3 and U3 on that board you get Uart3 on pins 5 and 6 that are on holes in the board for headers U11 and U5

sparkey the bootloader reboots it so you don't have to cycle the power

I take it U3 is the diode with a wrong label.

Ken

If you have removed the video and keyboard to free up 2 serial connections can one of these uarts be used with the "microVGA" module (see www.microvga.com) to reinstate these items if needed?

I take it that you haven't done any serial/uart coding as yet?

I'm trying to pick up where Nick left off with the colour video and the space invaders.

i am amaized finally a maxi that can hold its own ...My maxi`s that i have
acquired:

:altronics ...

were from dontronics and they are ::
the sm1 from tctec

:and the embedded verision also by "tctec...

:and the "sm1 " has the capable ability for "rtc"...:

:: if you want the maxi to be a "stand alone unit "as to what it is intened to be then loading a new firm via the usb or a sd-card either way should be a good thing not having to plug into the pc :other than down loading the hex file onto the card ...:in my honest oppionn this is the way the trend is going :::

i am running the embeded maxi using it to switch between my video suvelaiance cameras its all fitted into the case of my crt on the side panels i had to cut a slot into the case to allow up to five "r-c-a" inputs that is a possability...

what i did to the preamp is in one.. of my earlier posts ...but if you read it yo may find complications for obvuious reasons that the i/o pins need to be held to ground..i used a "bc-549 "" in series to the "bc-640" so that te transistor needed more than ..point 6 volts to switch on an so on..... but basicly disconnecting the preamp from the switched input and appling five volts to the switching cct and ..presto 5 switched inputs ...:
