Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

oops. I pressed enter and can't edit now.
for those who still use strip board. I tried "diy circuit layout" which is free and does stripboard. not bad.
I realised after I built it, it could be smaller, if I used a micro sd card reader and a usb c usb to ttl converter and moved stuff around.

I like using strip board. If done right like yours is here, with wires all straight and not messy, looks nice and neat, almost like an art form. 🙂

vero is not popular... pcb is. if the boards wee "easy" like ebay then cool but seems quicker to build a board. problems with capacitance,er?
this was a Sunday after noon project, beat getting pissed.
the ver could be smaller
the diy circuit layout can move links or anything on screen, new to me but interesting.
other features not used yet
I may make it smaller with smaller sd and usb to ttl but same size board as vga board.
I had this on bread board before :)

Hi Stan,

I am not a fan of strip board myself, but it has one big advantage. The PCB is stretched out, and larger. This gives room to debug. In my profession, and in this forum, I see many times designs that are so compact, that you can't even get an oscilloscope probe contact with the components. How in gods name can you debug a design ?

One of my colleagues is as we speak designing a ring (yes, around your finger) that checks vitality signs (heartbeat, blood pressure, etc..) and communicates over bluetooth. In a ring.... PV energy harvesting. I did not volunteer for that project. Currently working on a 11kW 3 phase motor drive...

With strip board, that is not an issue.

Mixtel90 gone suspiciously quiet

Could it be that he's working on a proto-board design, geared toward the PicoMite?

Those 100mm X 100mm JLCPCBs are dirt cheap.

Heck, he might even be planning stackable option boards as well

can't please all the people, etc.
realise dreams with cad and get boards cheaper than vero printed seems good.
get more on 4"x4" pcb than vero, probably, imho :)

I've been doing a couple of things. Trying to finalise PicoTower, making it a bit simpler to assemble, and redesigning my aquarium controller to use an OLED display instead of wi-fi. I've also been making my own aquarium lights to go with it. :)

PicoTower will have to wait for a bit as I'm going to have to build it, at least as a mockup, before I can release the design. All the boards now plug in but the tolerances will be a bit tight.

I'm currently writing the software for the aquarium controller.

On the subject of strip board and pad board I use both. However, the cost of 5 100x100 PCBs is much less than 5 pieces of SRBP strip board of the same area. I just have to wait longer for it. :)

I also like to build my stuff in commercially available enclosures, I just think it's more professional. By making PCBs I have much more control over the factors needed.

Ok, I paid for SL6 but it's given me many hours of fun. EasyEDA would probably have been better and it's free.

Been on the go for 16+ hours and dog-tired but I made the mistake of opening-up SL6 and now I don't want to hit the sack
Strangely relaxing

I downloaded Eagle Cad and KiCad, both free but I find difficult to get anywhere.
I got 2 3d printers and "could" change the extruder to a milling head.. maybe.
The send off gerber files to get made if cheap as said seems good.

Eagle has too many restrictions unless you pay for it 9i used to use it in the bad old days). KiCAD is excellent but trying to create new components seriously put me off when I tried it. EasyEDA is a similar thing but I haven't attempted to make new components. That's also free. Sprint Layout 6 is only a drawing package, it doesn't work from a circuit diagram. However you can draw anything with it. It's also extremely easy to create new components.
