for anyone in new zealand that is interested, i'm looking at ordering a bulk lot of PIC32MX150F128B-I/SP-ND (28-pin, SDIP, 40MHz) from digikey. in quantities over 30 their price is nz$4.06 + 15% GST each, or nz$4.67 (inc GST) each, with no postage charges for the whole order.

if the parts arrived and no GST was charged (which can happen) then i would pass on that saving.

would anyone else in new zealand be interesting in splitting an order? the cost would be, as above, $4.10/$4.70 per piece, plus $3 postage from here in christchurch to wherever you are in nz. this would be in a size-1 postage-included bag.

i would expect a minimum of 5 units per person, with no upper limit, and if needsbe can flash the release version of micromite basic for you if you don't have a pickit3. payment via internet banking on delivery to established forum members.

at the moment, just looking for expressions of interest via followup message. to recap, these are the 40MHz parts in a 28-pin DIP package.

cheers,
rob :-)

I sell those (but then the 50Mhz version) in single quantities for 4.50US$ and shipping is 2US$. Payment with Paypal.
If you want they can also be programmed for 1.50US$ extra.

For a group buy of 100 or more pieces that can knock of another 0.40US$

Just a post for you to compare options.

i'm just offering to split an order, with no profit, for locals here in new zealand. the only gain i'd obtain is avoiding the digikey shipping charge of nz$40 on small orders - and i've no need for over 30 parts just for myself.

Hi Rob

If you buy direct from Microchip the per unit cost on a order of 30 is NZD 4.46 including delivery that's for the 50mhz part.

Great idea to split an order (I expect to receive mine from Microchip today)

Regards
Jman

BTW I am also located in Christchurch

Lads,

Anyone in AUS doing something like this?

I was going to place an order for 5 or so chips from RS components at $5.04 AUS each and they are $4.59 (25QTY) or $4.26 (100QTY) for 40MHz 28pin SDIP. But they wont ship till 27May, not a big deal for me as I have a few but I will want a few more when my boards arrive.

A bit dearer than some places but includes freight in AUS.

It might (not sure) be possible to bulk order and get them to ship to multiple locations. Maybe not but worth a try.. (I would envision you would need at least 5 chips for them to consider this).

If there is a bulk deal going I am interested.

Mick

i doubt any of the usual suppliers would be willing to split an order across two destinations (NZ and AUS), simply because the shipping costs to just one destination are already relatively high. for orders less than nz$125 digikey hits you with something like nz$40 in shipping. as i recall they use fedex, so their cost is quite real.

of the 31 digikey units, i'd like to keep about 10, so just need one more person in nz to buy in.

alternatively, if jman would like to split 3-ways on his order, i'd be more than happy to do that, with grogster perhaps taking the other 1/3.

Rob,

I wasnt suggesting a split for different countries,

I meant say 5 people bought 20 each we might get a 100 off price and get the free postage in AUSTRALIA.. Maybe....

You can buy 1 chip for $5 and get free post as an individual..

I have dealt with RS a bit in the past and they may be amiable to that.. can only ask..

Anyway its a moot point if no one else is interested.

Also maybe someone is ordering from Mchip direct and wants to split cost of freight and maybe boost their order QTY to get cheaper unit prices..

Mick

When I bought my 100-pin QFP's from Microchip Direct, I don't recall the postage fee being excessively high, and I only bought 6 chips....

EDIT: Just had a look by making a mock order for 10 of the 50MHz chips, and the chips are US$3.64 each(NZ$4.22), and the postage is US$14(NZ$16) for courier from Thailand - very reasonable and much better the the $40 from DigiKey. When I order from Microchip Direct, the chips normally arrive in about two days.

I would be inclined to just get what you need directly from Microchip, Rob.
You might need to create an account, if you don't have one, but that is free.

you are right, shipping charges from microchip are far cheaper than i expected. things have changed in recent years.

i already have 3 samples that microchip sent me for free a couple of months back, so in recognition of that have just ordered 26 pieces of the 50MHz/dip part from microchip direct. including shipping (and assuming the order falls under the GST radar) final cost is just a few cents over nz$4.50 per piece.

i've no need for the full 26, so again, any forum members in nz who want a few can have them at actual parts cost + $3 postage. i live just round the corner from a postshop, so dropping them into a prepaid postbag is easy.

i now have in my hands 3 tubes of 7 and one tube of 5, 32MX150F128B-50I/SP chips. the total cost of the order was nz$118.64, or nz$4.60 each.

anyone in nz who is still interest, drop me a PM. we can either catch up if you are in christchurch, or i can post to elsewhere within NZ for $3 (nz post prepaid bag).

i'd prefer to pass on as 'per tube' if possible, and would like to be left with just one tube of either 5 or 7. if needsbe, i can pre-program with the latest release (4.5C once it is finalized) for gratis. if someone just wants a couple or three chips, i can split a tube if absolutely necessary, but would prefer not to.

this is not commercial, i am making no profit at all. just helping get the chips out there for folks in nz.

cheers,
rob :-)

Yes, I would confirm/recommend the same from and for the point of view of Australians. These days I only use microchip direct or element14.

Microchip direct are very easy to order from (just need a credit card, very hobbiest friendly) and if the parts are in stock shipping is usually very quick, a few days even. Microchip direct always have the lowest cost and typically there is no GST to add for my small orders. No problems in ordering non-tube size amounts either.

Element14 are a little more expensive but sometimes the free shipping for orders over $50 brings in a lower bottom line or if I need to purchase other jelly bean parts the single order comes in at a lower cost. Again, they are very easy to order from and without complex hoop jumping or outrageous "not in the USA" shipping costs that digi-key and mouser charge.
