Very clever indeed, and would be great for fast prototypes. Conductive ink is projected to be quite costly at $400 for a 100ml bottle, but having said that, it COULD save you money in the long run if you get a lot of prototype boards made, etc. Very interesting. Think I read somewhere that ordinary inkjet ink works out to about $1000 per litre, or at least some ridiculously exorbitant figure. So the conductive ink doesn't work out that expensive and I don't imagine you would be using heaps of the stuff for prototyping. David M. |

The problem is, you have to print a paper at every three days on regular inkjet printers, otherwise it gets dry. Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

Yeah, probably. It is reasonably well known that most printers cannot be built for what they sell for, so they sell them at a loss, and make up the difference with several hundred percent mark up on the replacement ink. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I don't ever run inkjets. They used to drive me to distraction with the ink drying out. As you say about the price of printers, B&W lasers are very cheap now and so is the toner if you don't buy genuine. I bought a 2500 page cartridge for my Brother printer off ePay for AU$16 delivered recently and the big surprise was the seller was in Melbourne Australia. I assume he is making a profit so how much was the original cost from the manufacturer? |

Trying to unblock blocked injet nozzels is the bane of all inkjet printer owners. I still use inkjet for colour work, as colour lasers are still quite expensive, but to be fair, they(colour laser printers) are coming down in price all the time... I think you can buy a basic B/W laser printer for about $100 new now. I also use the CISS(continuous ink supply system) from the likes of rihac. That saves a fortune on ink, and works really, really well, IMHO. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Grogster, at this link there are six lasers for under AU$100 including one under $30. mono laser printers Probably the genuine toner costs more than each. |

Dear God, you're right! I wonder how well a $30 printer would work - heck, at that price, so long as it worked at all, it would be cheaper then just about anything else I can think of... Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

At that price you don't buy toner. Usually they have a starter pack which is good for about 600 sheets. If you get 600 then this is 5 cents a sheet. You don't buy toner you buy a stock of printers and toss them when the toner is out. Not sure how it is these days but OfficeWorks delivery charges might be more than the printer. |

That unit quotes a 700 page starter toner. I remember when I had a retail business and the colour lasers were first introduced, it was cheaper for me to buy an HP colour laser printer with full toners and sell the toners individually an scrap the printer carcass even with freight costs. |

I hope to stick with my HP laser for a while yet. I would be lost without true network capabilities (and the ability to print to it from any operating system including Windows 3.11) I do cry a bit when I have to buy toners. Jim VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |

Yea I bought a brandnew mono laser mid last year brother HI-2135W wifi one $49 from Harvey Abnormal, I was quoted $50 for a new toner cartridge too. I did buy an Epsom inkjet for the missus for $39 so she could print some colour pic's and we got some decent life out the ink cartridges. We went into a printer shop to get a price on new cartridges and at $80 I said bugger that lets just buy another inkjet. But noway so she bought them and after installing them into the printer NOWAY would it print properly. Even tried it on my shed computer with the printer on the concrete floor and it still came out blurred so that was a waste of good cash but eh try and tell the one that can't be told that inkjet printers are a once only cartridge..... |

Byan, I have a HL2270DW and some eBay places were showing the same cart for your printer. Wise always to check. The DR2225 is a drum unit. Only $140 at Officeworks and about $15 on eBay. You would chuck the printer before buying it at that price. Officeworks show the same drum for our printers but different toner cartridges. |
