Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

As a slight digression here, I picked up the mono MM for it's keybaord and VGA output more then anything else, ALTHOUGH I was using it as a controller - so a controller with a VGA output. Until that point, I had been using PICAXE X2 chips as the main processor, and feeding serial commands to Batsocks TVOUT chip that was based on an Atmel MEGA8 chip, so we had Microchip AND Atmel on the same board! TVOUT was great, simple, cheap, but VGA is crisper and not quite as "Fuzzy" as composite video. When the colour MM came out, I had to take it seriously, as my designs were already needing some kind of screen output, and colour - even just 8 colour - makes things look so much more pretty. But again, it is being used as a "Controller with VGA output" more so then a computer, as it is generally running one dedicated bit of software. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I wish Chuck (kickstarter guy) all the best in his endeavours. Personally, to market it as a computer to a more mainstream audience may require a nicer plastic injection moulded case. (3D printer?) It still wreaks of that boxy hobbyist look and looks cheap for essentially an expensive Maximite. Nick |

I think anything that increases connection to a large market (USA) has got to be a good thing. But, I am wondering about similar situations - for example, Geoff generously put the code for the GPS tracker onto the Silicon Chip website, does that mean anyone can use the code with a simple acknowledgement, etc.. |

Chuck's tracking well so far! 66 Kickstarter backers so far and over $8100 in the kitty. His target is $10000 with 29 days to go. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/818225433/maximite-bbx- the-modern-day-basic-language-compute/backers Nick |

I have only made one post on this forum as a newbie where I was trying to find information about how to proceed with programming and building a weather station. My First Post Later I saw this thread about the Maximite BBX on KickStarter. After much research I decided to support this project and use the product to learn about programming. I read all of the information on the KickStarter Project page and the project creator has given credit to the original Maximite creator. I believe his intentions are pure. The project has met its minimum goal with 6 days to go. If anyone else here is interested I encourage them to go and support the project as I think it has the potential of increasing awareness of the Maximite. Maximite BBX on KickStarter I am also interested in the MicroMite and hope that my experience with the MaxiMite will lead to using it also. |
