Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Microsoft have done a few strange things with the update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 If you use a touchscreen with MM Edit and upgrade to Windows 8.1, you may get a nasty surprise. Microsoft doesn't clean up a 'floating point error' in the 'touchscreen' drivers and MM Edit sees the error flag and thinks that it has done something wrong. I know that it happens during Xmodem transfers and there could be other places that are susceptible. The only solution I can offer is to avoid using the touchscreen until Microsoft fix their software. The new version of MMedit (which is coming along slowly) will not be affected by this bug. Hi Jim, I was getting an odd response from MMEdit (V3.4.0) a few days ago when I was loading different programs down to the MM. For some reason each time an opening quote character was loaded it responded back with NEXT replacing the quote character. When the program was run on the MM it threw a syntax error. When I had a careful look at it, the quotes being sent were of the "double and back-slanted" variety. I tried a few things and it seemed to suddenly clear itself and loaded properly (guess something I did changed it) and the quotes had returned to the "double and vertical" variety. This hasn't happened to me before - any ideas what I might be doing? - I'm still using Win XP SP2. Greg |

That sounds like you had done a cut and paste from a Word document or similar. Those pesky 'smart quotes' are not as smart as they think they are. I might add a command to search and destroy smart quotes.... Jim VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |

That's probably exactly what it was! Thanks, I'll watch that in future. Greg |
