Maybe just me but on a quick read I couldn't tell the central point of why and how (what it's for and how it does it) in brief outline. Lots of tech stuff, but no simple summary suitable for anyone - particularly those who know nothing about electronics. John |

Kon, a great little project with heaps of complexity made very simple. Just wondering, as a next step how simple it would be to project digits for a heads-up display of the speed limit on the windscreen? |

I looked at the project when it was posted and I don't recall the gps knowing what the speed limit was, just the current speed. However, I can thing of a useful improvement that shouldn't be too difficult to implement. It would be useful to be able to change the values when the LED colours change. In Canberra there are various low speed zones where roads are being rebuilt or going past schools. Maybe a button could set the current speed as a limit and warn when it is exceeded. James Edit: on rereading your post I see you might have meant a HUD of the top speed of the current range. It could also show the current speed from the gps. There was a recent article in Silicon Chip about HUD units for displaying OBD data. Very nice. Actually, I've never thought of it to be anything more than a really easy to notice indicator of the current speed. I am driving now without the need to look at the speedometer and I can say it's cool, so I though the idea could be of help to someone else as well. There are a few little tweaks which after some time using it I can see helpful - one extra zone plus very slightly changed speed zones (7/44/62/82/103/113). Probably there are other possible additions, such as James' idea, but that is up to everyone's individual needs. http://rittle.org -------------- |

I think that using a short blink when crossing speed limits would be effective. When you speed up you would then very quickly get used to those blinks and know when you are at a certain speed. Those blinks could then be used for common maximum speeds. Maybe use two blinks when speeding up when going over a limit and when slowing down one blink. Microblocks. Build with logic. |

The short transition blinks are a great idea. I will experiment a bit with it and may update the AN. Thanks, Jean. If only the road signs were colour coded... There is actually no need for a number on the sign. That would have put a low limit as well and solved the problem with those annoying slow drivers who create the traffic congestions. For example you stay in the yellow zone on the freeway, blue around schools, etc... http://rittle.org -------------- |
