Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Roll up - Roll up. See two Maximites in action!
Canberra is celebrating its 100th birthday. One of the celebrations will be at Canberra's Questacon on 20th and 21st July 2013 where there will be some demonstrations and talks of Canberra's role in the Apollo 11 lunar landing. I'll be displaying the recreation of the seismic trace that was produced when the astronauts placed a seismometer on the surface. Geoscience Australia has produced a 2 metre tall banner that tells the story. I'll have a drum recorder reproducing the trace in real time. The display will be in the foyer of Questacon and is free. There will be talks and memorabilia. I've used the MM for the clock and for the crunching of the original seismic data onto the drum recorder. Come along and say hello.
Keep looking here for updates.

Sounds like a good excuse for Canberra folk to put a face to names.
See you there.

The Questacon site isn't 100% correct. It says there will be a replica of the seismic system that was left on the moon. This is 100% incorrect! Hopefully, Questacon will fix this tomorrow.

I was up at Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station site the other day. Anyone interested in the Apollo program and visiting the ACT should definitely include this in their travels. There's a campground and bbq's there, as well as plaques that tell the story of the site and the apollo missions.

The thing I love most about Honeysuckle Creek site is that it's the very first place in history on planet earth to receive a voice message from the surface of an alien world (as Neil went down the ladder).

If you are in Sydney on Sunday 6 Oct come along to the Power House Museum and say hello. I'll be there with the Apollo 11 Seismic display.
The museum is running their annual "Space Week" event.
