Just a quick question. The comms ports run at 5V (ttl voltages). The Wifly datasheet says Tx and Rx are 3.3 V tolerant. Can I use a simple resistor voltage divider to drop the voltage on the Tx pin and the Rx pin ?

The Maximite pins are 3.3V but are 5V tolerant.
If your Wifly runs at 3.3V all should be OK.

Thanks. will post if I can get the maximite on a wifi network. Need to telnet to maximite and control output on 21 dot matrix displays. 7 high by 3 wide.

Jim,
I got the Wifly module talking ok. Connect through telnet from pc. Send data over wifly, and read the serial buffer on com1:

Change any text that needs to be changed, and output to 21 dmd panels. For my test I have only 9 panels connected. Thats the easy part, as I just mirror the vga screen to the panels. Makes writing text easy...

I Use the spiDMD() command I added to the mmbasic source code. Thanks Geoff..

Current version 4.0 beta 5
just requested version 4.2 source.

Will put up some more info as it becomes available.

I look forward to seeing your project.
Getting the Maximite to communicate via Wifi is something that can help launch many other interesting projects.

The mind boggles. With wifi we could run the garden watering system and the external lights from any pc or laptop in the house. Toss in a light sensor and a couple of moisture sensors and we'd be using .001% of the potential of a Maximite.
Or a wifi controlled beer brewing system. That would be worth a lot of kudos amongst the beer brewing community.

Are you using the WiFly module directly or the WiFly sheild?

All,

I am using the wifly module. I purchased it from little bird electronics..

The wifly RN-XV module cost $40, and its headers are 2.0 mm pitch not 2.54mm(0.1").

Doesn't look like it would fit as an arduino shield. Each header is about an inch apart.

Web stuff here..

Here is a picture of telnet window with two pictures in picture. One of the MM vga output, the other is output on 9 panels (3x3)...final would be 21 panels 3 wide by 7 high

You can plug it into this shield.



The RN-XV is pin compatible with the XBee modules so any shield that supports XBee should support the RN-XV.
These are available everywhere including DFROBOT.com and EBAY.
