Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi,

I'm a forum newbie and a MaxiMite / DuinoMite newbie.

Has anyone gotten CAN working on a DuinoMite eMega? When I try it just hangs at the CANOPEN command.

I'm not yet sure whether the connectivity issue is the CAN hardware on the eMega, the CAN software in the DMBasic or whether it's something simple like needing to add the termination resistor.

I do have another device (an Atmel UC3-EK) hooked up to the OBD port and reading data - so I know those signals are good. However, I have no power at the OBD port - so I need to find out what's the problem there. I'm powering both the Atmel and the DM eMega from vehicle power via a cigarette lighter.

BTW, On the Dontronics page it incorrectly states that the eMega doesn't have CAN. It does, it's on the second 1/8" stereo jack. I first thought that setup was kind of neat - nice and compact and easy to get a plug for it. However, twice now I've unplugged while the CAN bus is powered and sliding out the jack causes the CAN bus to glitch pretty badly (set a bunch of error codes). I know the answer is "don't disconnect" it's just that my mind is wired that those plugs are "hot pluggable" and OBD is hot pluggable with suitable connectors.

I plan on getting a DuinoMite Mega (no e!) to continue working on my project and I can always use the eMega for some other nefarious purpose later on. But it would be nice if I could figure out the problem with it...

Any ideas or pointers?

Thanks.

Hi John, yes it was incorrectly quoted by me, and now corrected. Yesterday, I also made sure Geoff Graham was aware of this incorrect information.

Good luck with it.

Cheers Don...

Hi John,

Try the firmware located here called "Olimex DuinoMite eMega MMBasic Project .hex" as that is the latest build for the eMEGA... I cant say for sure about the CAN as I have never tried it myself.
