Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi i hope someone can/will help me. I would like to show a image for a few seconds before my program starts. So now i use a small program i found here on the forum to show a bmp 1bit picture and that works great but now i have to compress my jpeg pictue into a bmp picture. Is there a simple program to do that?
Thanks in advance.

I use either Photostudio 6 (Commercial Software)
or use this online site
http://www.coolutils.com/online/image-converter/
That site also has a Downloadable versionEdited by djuqa 2012-03-11

Try Irfanview - you can convert to pure B/W - should be 1 bit.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but i have a similar problem - Converting 8-colour images to Colour Maximite-compatible BMP files.

The trick is - i don't use Windows.

I created the image with GIMP (latest versions do include a Indexed 8 colour palette named "Colour Maximite")

All the BMP files saved with Gimp or Preview.app are rejected by the MaxiMite (4.4B) with "Error: Corrupt file"
I tried 4 bpp, 8 bpp, full 8 colour index, reduced colour index - same error.

Has anyone successfully created a Colour Maximite-compatible BMP image using non-windows software ?

Thanks.

The format needs to be 4 bit or 16 colour.
You could try one of the Windows programs and run it under Wine.

Try opening an image saved from the Maximite with GIMP to see what format GIMP thinks it is.
