About 9 January, at the height of the mutual chest beating from both *Mite camps I sent a letter to the editor of Silicon Chip - who published the original Maximite articles - expressing my dismay, as an outsider, at what was happening to a great overall project. An edited self-serving version of that letter has just appeared in the March edition. It has had a bold heading of "Original Maximite is the best" added and although it appears a subtle change, the word "too" has been removed from the end of the letter completely changing the original context and suggesting to the reader that I was so disgusted that I threw away my Duinomite and bought a Maximite. Well, the truth is that I bought an overpriced Maximite mini (from Jaycar Electronics who are not in this for their good health but for the $$$ as are Altronics and Silicon Chip) so that I could test the Basic programs I was writing on both platforms, the "as a result of recent events" in my letter referring to the emergence of the new closed open source Basic and the original GPL version. I'm a keen supporter of the GPL version and I've tried to contribute what I can to it, without expecting any glory in return, it's just a fun thing to do and a great personal challenge. Again in my opinion there is no good, better, best between the two versions, they both have unique features to support their particular hardware platforms. Geoff had a great original idea which he (for better or worse) gave away freely for anyone to use and modify as they saw fit. Which is exactly what happened, surprise, that's life! In summary, I'm very disappointed in Leo Simpson the editor of SC for such a blatant twisting of my original letter to suit his personal agenda, it does nothing to promote harmony or goodwill between the various groups. I felt compelled to post a response here because I know SC would not do so. Now, off to the bathroom with my March edition as I seem to have run out of paper on the roll........ Iggy |

Not the first time Leo Simpson has done that. He has some really funny ideas about a LOT of things. VK4MU MicroController Units |

Hi Iggy. Yes your right, removing the word "too" from the end of that letter changes everything. I now wonder how often other letters to the editor are changed before printing. Its true there is now a blance between the two camps, and I agree with you that both systems are great. I might close this topic, enough has been said and I dont want to see a slanging match started against SC. I'll make this a sticky so its at the top of the page for a few days, give everyone a change to read it. I see the same post is over at the Ken Segler Duinomite forum, they may leave it open for others to comment http://www.kenseglerdesigns.com/cms/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4 &t=295 Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now.
