The card will not pass over the firmware jumper and the metal crystal?
This must be cruel joke or trick or a serious PCB layout problem?

No, if I recall correctly, the holder opens up like a hinge, you insert the card and then close it back down. CG has written a document on his creation and that may tell all.

Whew ... gently pull back the SD holder to the edge horizonally to unlock then lift the sd holder hinge up then insert the card. Reverse the process.
