I have a Maximite SM1 in an enclosure. Powered via the USB port, I would like to add a "reset" switch or button. On occasion I've had to remove then plug in the USB cable to clear a system hang in the MM. I assume open/close the +5v on the USB port? Thank you |

If you're willing to shut down the MM and do a restart then disconnecting the 5 volts on the USB will probably be the only way to go. But your ultimate aim is to fix the reason it's hanging. Talbit Talbit |

You can add a reset button between pins 1 and 3 on the SM1 connector CONN3 for reset. Much easier than having to modify things to cut off 5V. When you reset, hold the button for long enough for the PC's USB driver to disconnect from the device, then release. Five seconds seems to be effective. The reason for my interest in doing this is I encountered a problem after downloading a simple program from Geoff's web site. I didn't "new" my MM of a previous problem I had in getting another program to run. Loading and running the 2nd program would hang the MM. After trying various settings in Tera Term "pulling the plug" restored the MM. Thanks cktguy, looked for mclr after reading up a bit on Micro Circuit's web site but for the life of me I couldn't find any "clear" on the schematics. I'll try it! Thanks guys! |
