Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi, Ordered and received the Maximite SM1 from Dontronics. Loaded in 2.7B firmware OK. All works fine except no SD card access. When trying to save to or read files I get an error message "SD Card not Accessible". There is no activity on the indicator D5. I can save and read files from drive A OK. There appears to be dodgy soldering on the SD card socket. As it was purchased as a fully configured, operational board I attempted to order a warranty replacement from Dontronics but got sent to this forum :-( Any suggestions other than physically taking a soldering iron to the SD socket (which would invalidate any warranty claim) would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug.

Your post indicates you loaded 2.7B after you received the card? If so, did it work before you loaded 2.7B? Try loading an earlier version of firmware.

Thanks elchucko, the board came with 2.6 loaded. Same problem as now - no SD card access, no D5 indicator. I have also tried several different SD cards with no success.
Cheers, Doug.

Try loading 2.7 A . Try a different SD card.

Sounds like a crook solder joint to me. How good are your eyes?
I just purchased a 10X stick-in-your-eye, magnifier.

Thanks guys, checked voltages - 3.3 measures 3.29V on both USB and 9V plugpack, 5V measures 4.7V on USB and 5.05V on 9V plugpack. To my great disgust/delight, it now works on both USB and plugpack for no logical reason that I can think of other than a suspect solder joint somewhere. I had tested both sources previously. The SD access light now comes on as expected and I can save and read 2GB SANDISK, 32MB Panasonic OK. Didn't like 8GB SANDISK or 32MB Multimedia Card - both gave a root directory error message.
Been doin' this stuff for nigh on 40 years and I hate it when this happens - can't see that I overlooked anything first time round. Thanks to all for your assistance,
Cheers, Doug.

From what I've been told any SD card over 2GB will probably not be formatted in the proper FAT so it won't work on a Maximite.

Can't explain the rest of it.

What I said to Doug was:

Hi Doug, have you joined the user forum and asked there?
http://www.thebackshed.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=16&PN= 1

have you read:
http://www.themaximitecomputer.com/maximite-control/
about compatible cards and other problems?

It appears Doug has it sorted now.

Cheers Don...

I'm using a Verbatim 4GB card with my SM1. Works flawlessly with both 2.6 and 2.7B

I had this problem and ran a soldering iron across the the sd card contacts which fixed it. I don't think you will have a warrantee problem if this doesn't work, check with Don.

I don't see a problem if done in a professional manner. If it was an obvious ham fisted attempt, then we would have a problem.

If unsure, send me an email, as I think it may need to be gauged individually.

I would usually encourage a genuine attempt at a user fix, than to return the goods, at a time and financial expense for both parties.

Cheers Don...
