G'day Guy's,
Well with this help file I'm making when I got to the 'MEMORY' command I did get a BIG shock at the amount of memory used on the DM. I did say I was going to have a go at making my own when Don stepped up with an email which I only saw after I had soldered on the breakout board. Anyway second time around I reckon I had it right as with the first chip I was too heavy handed using the soldering iron and braid and I bent a few pins. So a gentle flow with the heat gun got the first chip off nicely and I was more careful with the second chip. I did print out Geoff's pages where he did one on the futurelec breakout board but as the picture wasn't the best in the print I soldered on the caps in a slightly different way and was I over the moon when the pickit3 showed the revision number in MPLAB so I came down to the house and grabbed Geoff's latest download, I did notice with that download the bootloader wasn't included so back down to the house again and I grabbed the V2.7 which did include the bootloader. Anyway it programmed nicely and after 3 verifications all was good. Now time to design a pcb for the breakout board and this one will only be for USB and the SD card. I am going to put a connection on for the serial 4x4 keypad I made and a connection for a 4x20 lcd.

I did have a project in the works before the DM came along which is my master controller for my RE systems. So it does look like this breakout board has the new job and it will be a fun project....

Anyway a couple of pic's...

Note on Geoff's schematic it does show pin 20 (AVss) is grounded but I didn't need it to be as I used the pickit3 to supply power.

Regards Bryan

P.S. In the true spirit of open source once I can test the BB to see it does work and I do have the USB BB I made this one is going over to my good mate RossW so he can have a play.Edited by Bryan1 2011-11-28

Bryan,
You mentioned a PCB for the SD card for your setup. In Geoff's MiniMM SC article (page 36) he shows a mockup with the SD card reader on a nice looking board.
Do you know where he got the board?

You can get SD sockets on a PCB from Futurlec -

This board was made up in less than 2 hours and after I programmed it the yard arm got here. Today after a good mate had a go at me and after last nights comments well a homebrew board is made to Goeff's spec's and yes it did work and it will go to a good cause too.

As far as a SD card BB goes let me know what size of pin outs etc and I may be able to design a PCB for it. As I do believe in open source that word 'Karma' does ring a bell.

I will get past this hurdle and hopefully soon provide an online help manual, so it can be the reference for all.

Note for the inquisitive :- YES my first .BAS file will be a Help file but I do have a few hurdles to jump first.................

Cheers Bryan
