Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I'll be producing a Maximite design in the spirit of the original design - compatible with the firmware written by Geoff. There is still room for the Maximite even if there is a flood of partially-compatible clones.

It will sell for less than the SM1. A unique configuration for a Maximite. Not ready to introduce it yet, though.

I thought that one benefit of open source was that contributions could be made _back_ to the original source to improve the project. Has that happened here? Edited by CircuitGizmos 2011-11-25

I've also been having some fun working with a friend to create a Maximite compatible Arduino style module we call the Maximino. The pinout is slightly different than the proposed Arduino compatible layout that I posted on the forum some time ago. The reason we moved a few pins around was to match the I2C and UART pins of the Arduino while still maintaining complete pinout compatibility with Maximite. I2C, SPI and UART were new features in MMBASIC that didn't exist when I did the original layout. SPI is more flexible in MMBASIC so we didn't have to move pins for that. We have a lot of CHIPINO/Arduino shields around we'd like to use with Maximite code so that drove us to this. It's been a fun project so far. These stack on each other to make a complete Maximite.

That should be popular with those wanting more MM compatibility!

Any estimates on timescale & cost?

Haven't really thought about that.
We're just making a few prototypes to play with right now.

Thanks to Don I had an early SM1 and couple of Donduino Cross boards to play with and we bought a second SM1 so we each had a setup. The idea was to just wait until the Duinomite became available. Then we built a couple of the Geoff's Maximite Mini's while we waited. Then all the pinout stuff showed up and my original Maximite to Arduino layout was changed so we kept talking about wanting to maintain the Maximite pinout and the changes that we would make to my Arduino layout for the I2C and UART so that's what got it started.
Sometimes I wonder if the mother of invention is actually a couple of cold beers between friends.

A sense of humour! Is that still allowed?

Cheers Don...
