Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I know the Mega is relatively new but, before I buy, I need answers.
Reviewing some of the topics gives me many incomplete answers and there
are some users that like to dwell into their personal life on this board
which destroys the topic. That is why they have PM and email for chatting.

1. What is the latest Mega firmware revision to date?
Note: There are two sites for this firmware eg Olimex and Dontronics.
Shouldn't there be only ONE place for this code? (Like github?)

2. Has the basic full screen editor been completed and working?

3. Is NTSC composite video completed, working and finished?

4. Are there any hardware / jumper changes to rev. A Mega board?

5. Has the user manual for the Mega been completed and finished?

6. How long for the milled Mega box?

7. Is there a summary of firmware bugs and workarounds?

Hi Andy

1. V2.7
Shouldn't there be only ONE place for this code? (Like github?)
yes an account is being set up.

2. Has the basic full screen editor been completed and working?
This I understand is being done by Ken.

3. Is NTSC composite video completed, working and finished?
Yes, Geoff will include it in the next version. This is mentioned on this forum, but I know it may be hard to find.

4. Are there any hardware / jumper changes to rev. A Mega board?
Only Rev C has been released to the public, no mods.

5. Has the user manual for the Mega been completed and finished?
I think this will be a work in progress by Olimex.

6. How long for the milled Mega box?
Cut their first box yesterday, so it will be 3 to 4 weeks I would think.

7. Is there a summary of firmware bugs and workarounds?
I have started a page at:
http://www.themaximitecomputer.com/duinomite-gpios-explained -and-firmware-news/

Tsvetan of Olimex or Ken Segler may have more information on all of the subjects, and may wish to add to my comments.

1. Ken proposed the project to move to Github so more people could contribute, Geoff didn't liked this idea if I interpret his message about it, so I guess Ken is hesitating what to do about it

2. to the best of my knowledge Ken didn't finish it yet, there is some beta release here on the forum

3. I do not like composite video at all, it's lower resolution and your eyes will wear off quickly if you use such monitor close to them, maybe we should drop this in the next revision of Mega so we have more space for LAN connector?

4. the mass produced revision is C, the A and B were just for internal use and no customer have access to them

5. not yet, but I will work on the preliminary revision of it this weekend

6. the first prototype is ready, we also going to print on the box all connector names together with Duinomite logo, it really looks nice :-)
next week we will have about 200 boxes printed and milled, ready to ship

7. There are few bugs already reported, the USB buffer is one of them, while I played with mine Duinomite I got also few weird messages like "error in line 1" while my code had no such line at all, it seems some pointers got messy, the solution was to type NEW or to hit RESET :-), Ken says he have seen same in the stock firmware.
I think it's about time to decide how the firmware will go on from now on, but this is something Geoff have to decide.

Don

I wonder if the milled Mega box is an enclosed box? (Has a top)

If so, height adjustment is necessary (on the enclosure) if a user stacks multiple Arduino shields on the Mega board?

Yes, a box much like the original Altronics one.

You can of course externally add:
http://www.dontronics-shop.com/olimex-duinomite-shield-board .html
or:
http://www.dontronics-shop.com/the-donduino-cross.html

These also convert the mini:
http://www.dontronics-shop.com/olimex-duinomite-mini.html
to an Arduino Shield device.

Mix and Match.

Hi All

Have been very busy and have not contributed, BUT when I read this
3. I do not like composite video at all, it's lower resolution and your eyes will wear off quickly if you use such monitor close to them, maybe we should drop this in the next revision of Mega so we have more space for LAN connector?

Had to respond.
Composite video ability is not about resolution to me.
Have you tried to compare prices for a 7 inch vga to a 7 inch composite ?
Being able to connect a cheap portable monitor, for text or basic graphic info is critical to the flexibility of the Duinomite.
I for one will stick to the Maximite if that happens.

When Geoff includes his OPTION NTSC in his next version, it will be migrated over to the DuinoMite.

You may have noticed, I really put in a push on this feature to be added.

I too have put my hand up to keep composite video... Whilst personally I dont like it as much, I do see there are many applications that would benefit from having a composite video available...

And infact I was quite impressed when I plugged my Duinomite mega into a composite TV and saw it was more than acceptable ... quality wise.
