Don, do you still have a pole running for the number of Maximites owned by anyone? Its easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission! ............VK6MRG.............VK3MGR............ |

Never had a poll for "the number of Maximites owned by anyone" If I get enough requests, I'll add it. I'll add anything if there is enough interest, but as I have found at times in the past, users request things, and many don't even bother to place a single vote on the item they requested. So it has to be by popular request to make it workable. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Thanks Don. Pete in Hyder here. I suspected the number of units in peoples hands was still rather limited. You can just get a feel for a product or trend from its newsgroup activity. My 12" slate ASUS EP 121 went through these same kinds of numbers earlier this year. I've got 3 SD1's so far, 'course you already know that. One is being used as a Time & Temperature Data Logger with a Real Time Clock and 16x2 LCD display. Not only does it log data, it shows the current temperature as well as today's high and low temps. See the new thread I posted today for photos. Note to all: those old plastic VHS cases make great project boxes and they are FREE! I'm going to use the second one to practice with after I get an RTC installed on it this evening. I still need to make sure I know how to control relays and 24v flow control valves for the wood fired exterior home heating boiler I'm building next year. So the second MM will be my test bench model. The 3rd one will be used to run the wood burning boiler. It will circulate water to zones in the house, open and close the air intake to the fire box (read throttle) based on the temperature of the water in the jacket surrounding the fire box and the temperature in the house. It will also be used for zone control using additional zone temp sensors and flow control valves. Our home has very good natural thermal wicking which does not require forcing air circulation, but if I have enough I/Os left I might also drive a fan to circulate air when temperature variations between zones becomes excessive. This is my reason for getting involved with Maximites, but I've beenlooking for something like this for literally decades. I'm sure MM #4 for me is not far off. If this MM project ever falters or starts to morph into something not so simple I am seriously considering becomming involved to keep it alive pretty much as it is today. It looks to me though like it can fly on its own so it shouldn't need much in the way of boosters. Kudo's to all involved. And Geoff, you are the man, a visionary. Pete in Hyder PS Sorry, I don't speak the King's English. I've noticed a few things are different from American English but I'm starting to get the hang of it. For example I'd never heard of setting circuits or switches high or low. In the US they are called open or closed. We're all here 'cause we're not all there. |

Hi Pete As an electrician in Australia we also call switches open or closed. And we call digital I/O high or low. Some things are different but mostly the same Its easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission! ............VK6MRG.............VK3MGR............ |

So does an I/O being Set High mean it carries a high trip voltage? And if so does that mean the circuit is likely to be open or closed? Or are the open/closed designations dependant on how the circuit is designed? I guess what I'm asking is what does Set High or Set Low mean? And is High usually assocaited with Open and Low usually associated with Closed? Pete We're all here 'cause we're not all there. |

generaly a high state is a positve 5 volts or these days 3 volts but in digital terms high represents a digital code of "1" and low represents a digital code of "0" thus a high is a positive voltage on a selected node ...and low would represent 0 volts" ...hope this helps...///.../// : from an electrician`s point of veiw on is closed and off is open ...///.../// ::if your really getting too confused with digital obtain a logic probe.../// technicians do it with least resistance |

I made a test/prototype version for my own use and experimentation. Verification of a few things. Next version of this MM-type board will be production ready. Micromites and Maximites! - Beginning Maximite |

I just "discovered" the Maximite series of machines a few days ago. I ordered one after reading about the device. I'm still waiting for my order to arrive here in Nebraska US. Any US distributors? What caught my eye was the capability to run Basic and have the I/Os to interface to a PC, keyboard and VGA device. My plan is to use the Maxi for a low cost piece of hardware that when including a monitor and keyboard one has a computer that is a training tool for the Basic language and who knows what else. I can envision x number of units used in any group or organization that has a need for a simple low cost training tool. This product needs exposure to the public (think Commodore 64, etc) but for other things than playing games which is not it's forte. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to asking lots of questions as I begin to play with the device. Since some posts discussed logic states and as an old (1961)electronics guy, I thought I'd inject a few comments about "logic". Now this as I remember it so..... regarding logic: High is to Low (Low could be the active state while High is inactive and vice versa) Plus Minus One Zero (binary) Closed Open On Off +5v -5v +12v -12v True. False Flip/Flop Toggles logic state (on/off, high/low) Being "out of the loop" on the latest stuff, we used the term "machine", system, device and computer interchangeably when I "tweaked" on mainframes many a year ago. I'm not sure if these expressions are in vogue or even apply today. As I remember it. ;) |

Hi Been lurking for a while and just want to say there is now one more maximite "out there". Upgraded the firmware, written a few programs and can't wait to teach my kids how computers really work. Best regards to you all, Steve |
