Hi, I've got a weird thing going on here. The two boards I just built won't run when I install the MMBasic v2.1 with bootloader, but when I install 2.11BSD they're fine. Is there some trick to burning these with MPLAB, or is the bootloader buggy, or what? There was some talk of the need for a very low ESR cap a while ago, is this what I'm experiencing? I used standard electros because I've had problems with tantalums shorting out over the years, and the 100n caps are all ceramics. Rob unzip, strip, touch, finger, grep, mount, fsck, more, yes, fsck, fsck, fsck, umount, sleep |

Just check what Stuart Smith did to get his to run: http://www.thebackshed.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3550&PN =7 Why there should be any difference between MMBasic v2.1 and 2.11BSD is beyond me. I recently burnt "MMBasic v2.1 with bootloader" using Microchip's "PICkit 3.exe" which is available from their web site, on the Pikit3 page. Two options anyway before you lose all your hair. Cheers Don... (Oh, that is if you have a PICKIT 3 kit of course) https://www.dontronics.com |

Rob, You could have a look at my page here to see what I did with the capacitor. The original capacitor has now been replaced by a SMD Tantalum type and works fine, although I can't imagine why the BSD worked and MM didn't. It could be something to do with programming switches when the Maximite is loaded that affects the clock circuit and makes this capacitor selection a bit more sensitive? When I programmed, I just used the Pickit3, set the PIC destination, loaded the 2.1/Bootloader hex file and away it went. (well after the cap mod it did!!) - Rob For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED. |

Yup, a 47u/16v electro between Vcap and Vdd brought both of them to life. Thank you linesmen, thank you ballboys. The fact that BSD worked tells me there's a firmware fix that can be applied. Pity the code isn't available for the bootloader. Rob unzip, strip, touch, finger, grep, mount, fsck, more, yes, fsck, fsck, fsck, umount, sleep |

Great! Some one will either know, or work out the answer to that one eventually. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |
