Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

We have to wait a little for a complete open-source pic32 environment (MPIDE). The best approach for Max32 is to use MPIDE to write the Basic interpreter from scratch.

Currently, the Official Release is 20111221 (2011-12-21)

Rick said   This release has reduced it's dependency on plib.h, non open source file, so libraries don't need to depend on it any more. The next goal is get any and all libraries converted away from plib.h. I had problems with OneWire unfortunately. Some of the new libraries highlight the power of ChipKit platform like the SoftSPI library to create any number of bit banged SPI ports.

I also think Gene's work has made tackling Arduino 1.0 API easier. Additionally, I'm planning making it possible to switch between Arduino 0023, and Arduino 1.0.

The ground work is paved for using the pic32 compiler using newlib. This is the result of Jason Kajita, and Microchip effort to make sure this project is meets it's goal of being open source all the way. So my next goal is to make sure that compiler is available first in the skethch/hardware user folder, and then in the core. Once in place we'll have an core and compiler that doesn't depend on non open source tools.

As for holidays, I get a little extra time to work on projects which makes getting builds out easier. I have to say the excitement of the people on the project is really great, and makes it a joy to work on this project.

Happy Holidays,
-_Rick

P.S. Currently, retrobsd project use Jason Kajita's version of pic32 compiler which use newlib library instead of the proprietary one.Edited by vasi 2012-01-02

I compile mmbasic 2.7 for ubw32 using chipkit max32 linker file and use hexmate to merge with chipkit bootloader, but is not working, it result in 1.25Mb hex and my chipkit remain in bootloader mode. What can i do?

Ok rethinking this again the console is going to be on usb by default and the chipkit usb is on UART1 so you will need to add a usb connection to the usb port on the pic32
like this

Both Vasi and I previously posted several messages about how we couldn't get this to work

Thank you Ken, i will do more experiments with uwb32 mmbasic 2.7 .

mmbasic 2.5 from Ken's page works fine, i only use hexmate to merge chipkit bootloader and burn the resulting hex to my max32 using pickit2 and thats all, works great.Edited by diodoman 2012-01-03
