Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Don, its not really a y2k bug. you put 11 in and you get 11 out. The y2k problem what that you put 11 in and you got 1911 out.The end result is that instead of 1 day from 31/12/1999 to 1/1/2000, you got a very large negative mnumber from 31/12/99 to 1/1/2000 because it saw it as 31/12/1999 to 1/1/1900. People dismiss y2k because nothing happened. In reality, many billions of dollars were spent fixing 40 year old code and in many cases rewriting from scratch when the source had been lost. The only thing that went wrong with y2k is that the effort that was put into making sure it never happened has never been publicised well enough so that the general public was aware of it. I know the amount of equipment that we sold so that the banks could make sure it didn't happen. After y2k, we didn't sell much because because the customers had bought up big and then had excess equipment. Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening all at once. |

Hi gang, Please let us not go back to the bad old days of two digit years. When I saw that Geoff had used a 4-digit year, I cheered! Regards, Bob Devries Dalby, QLD, Australia |

Bob, I agree 100%. we dont have tiny amounts of memory like in the old days where every byte had to be scrimped and saved. As it is, we dont have integers so we cant actually make the year take up less space by only using 2 digits. Stuart Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening all at once. |
