Hi Don,
As you did say my idea had merit, I could post up my circuit for you guys to look at. I did it in sprint layout and the reader for sprint is free. I do feel by going this route using the 64 tqfp breakout board would be the way to go. By redoing the design in a double sided board would cut the main board down in size considerably and the project boards could also be small.

I did say in my first post on this subject I am ultra busy and I do make my own circuit boards but if you want to take this on consider me being your first customer.

Just think of it this way the tqfp board could sit in the middle of any project board and by jumpering each pin to a pin header and providing a sea of holes one basic project board could suit a wide range of applications, allowing the Op to make custom circuits.

If you do like my idea I can put some time into designing the double sided board but doing double sided boards here is currently beyond my knowledge. It would be good to get other members response to this idea to see if it would be a goer.

Hi Bryan,

Sorry I didn't tell you the full story from my end, as you had an idea I felt you wanted to run with. I told you I felt it was a good idea, (which it is) but at that stage, I couldn't say anything else, and certainly didn't want to discourage you at all.

Mick had already suggested it to me, and has even got it mapped out as a Protel footprint, and sent it to me via email. 64 pin header, and all caps, and crystal right on board. All you need to do is throw power and I/O at it. He is very keen on this one.

He looks at it as a Stamp type device for any board. If later silicon versions come along, then you just do an engine transplant.

The only problem I see is the height of the board, but is that a problem? I can't see an alternative to mount a 64 pin device easily for hobbyists, so it looks like a 4 * 16 (2.45mm) header system.

As you suggested, you just build up a simple board to mount the engine, and carry out the application in the simplest of forms.
