In this thread (URL Below) this morning, I made mention of Don&Co being more like the Mercenaries out of the Movie "The Wild Geese", than a dedicated team of cutting edge professionals. http://www.thebackshed.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3675&PN =1&TPN=1 Well by last night, and again this morning, we looked more like headless chooks. We have been going around in circles, and I think we have finally decided that Geoff's pin 1 of the IDC connector is in the wrong position for a standard foot print. See: http://pinouts.ru/HD/AtaInternal_pinout.shtml It may well be in the mag articles, it may well be in Geoff's on line data, but we are Maxiteers. Who "RTFM?". I know I asked about a suggested connector problem in a thread recently somewhere, perhaps I even asked twice, but I didn't get a response, and thought it possibly didn't matter. I would rather go ahead and ask a silly question, and be called an silly old fool, than go ahead with a silly mistake. Like the Arduino footprint Gerber file mistake, we will have to adapt to the Maximite pin flow on wherever we head with this, and match up the headers and pin 1 locations. Please tell me if I have got it wrong. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Yes it's backwards. I found that out the hard way also. There is a couple of othe mistakes as well on the original SC published circuit diagram. The problem with the IDC is only when you use a right angle connector. If you match it pin1 to pin1 then it points inward not outward. Geoff said it was a faulty PCB library component in the design software. I ditched the RA connector and put a straight one on the right way. Also be aware that +5 & +3.3 are flipped on the original SC diagram. Cheers Rohan Rohan Hamer HAMFIELD Software & Hardware Solutions Makers of the Maximite Expander. http://www.hamfield.com.au |

AHA! Thank you Rowan, it is only us chickens errr....... hardware types that have encountered this problem. You have saved my sanity, and my hair. Well, you would have if I had hair. Hey Mick, check out the 5V and 3V3 rails too. My twin brother Rohan says they are flipped on the SC mud map. Should we delete this and similar threads, so that the Chinaman that rips it all of and sells it on ebay in 6 months time (or less) trips up a little? Should we have a poll "The Chinaman Syndrome. How long before it is all ripped off, and sold on eBay? Answer could be between 3 minutes and 6 months. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

I've been using the picture of the expansion connector in the user manual as my reference. Ignoring the pin numbers and just using the physical locations in the image for my right angle connector. It's been confusing mapping it to another right angle connector on a board to plug into the expansion connector. Stuart Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening all at once. |

Which pinout, the picture or the circuit? The circuit shows the true numbering, the picture shows the reversed connector. Regards Rohan Rohan Hamer HAMFIELD Software & Hardware Solutions Makers of the Maximite Expander. http://www.hamfield.com.au |

I suggest you ignore the RA connector and use the true pin numbering. I have encouraged my customers to use a straight connector or recut the notch in the RA connector. The problem is just in the RA connector, any new board layout should be corrected.
