Howdy I have installed teraterm on my Vista laptop. I can use it to connect to my MM when it arrives. There have been good tips an the forum. HOWEVER, I never use windows anymore. I dual boot into Ubuntu linux (currently 10.10) and I use it 99% of the time. I have to use Windows for Netflix. Can someone give me tips on terminal emulator software? How will I configure it to use the usb port to talk to the MM? Bill Old school. Still interested. Head in the clouds. |

Cap'n Bill, Cap'n Bill, I kept imagining you were a ship's captain, well I guess you are. I imagined the wrong ship. My dad drove airplanes during WWII. You may know him. 
Stuart is running a Fedora Linux box with MM. He hopes he can help you out later today our time. BTW He may be trying a MAC book tonight to see what he can work it out. We have some talented people on board here Cap'n Bill.

I propose that all you guy in Australia set your clocks ahead 9 hours, black out your windows, and use bright lights to get yourselves in sync with the three or so of us here in the States ;-} Bill Old school. Captainbill, I've been running my MM on both Fedora 13 and Windows7. I've found it more reliable on Fedora. I just plug it in and it works. I had to install UUCP. I dont think Ubuntu comes with UUCP from what I read. I just installed it using yum install uucp. I know ubuntu doesn't use yum, but I'm sure you'll know what to do there. When I plug my MM into the Fedora box it creates a /dev/ttyACM0. It doesn't seem to matter what USB port I plug into, I always get the same device file. From there I just cu -l ttyACM0 and I'm connected. cu comes as part of the uucp package. Some have had problems with windows where you disconnect the MM and when you reconnect you have to kill putty and restart. I haven't had any issues like that with Fedora. Howdy Don The north magnetic pole on earth is actually a south pole in magnetic lines of flux. If you are located between the north pole and the north pole magnetic you would atually fly a north magnetic heading to proceed to the south pole. Looks like the northernmost country showing on the UN flag is Siberia. Can't tell for sure with these old eyes. Bill Old school. Still interested. Head in the clouds. |

A1) Thanks Bill, my father had actually flown over it a few times during WWII, and I know the kids of the day had a lot of navigation problems, and needed to go on dead reckoning before they got lost. A2) Trick question. The centre (center) of the map is the north pole: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_the_United_Nations .svg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_the_United_Nations .svg This is a better picture no doubt than the one you looked at. So it is a matter of how they have spun the world on that axis. Looks like Australia just missed out, and New Zealand won. I went very close to flying over the south pole on one of those Qantas special Antarctic flights, but at 18,000 ft, you couldn't see a lot of detail. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

Don, at this point I've had no success with the Mac. It recognises the maximite and then tries to be really clever and decides it a dialup modem. Didn't have a chance to go any further with it. Son wanted his Mac back. Stuart Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening all at once. |

I get frustrated just turning them on. 
My solution to fix computer problems. Bob PS Also tried dual booting but couldn't get both feet lined up at once without falling over, tried my walker frame but in ran backwards, something to do with the laws of motion. Foolin Around |
