Hi all,

has anybody tested the Waveshare Pico-Relay-B yet?
It looks like an easy way to get relays and a usable case for the picomite.

If someone already knows this device, please share your findings.

Cheers.

Only problem that I see is that it's output-only.

G'day Fred,
These look like a great idea and there is one here somewhere with a Pico-W in it with a test program to drive the relays via a wifi app, however this is also the units downfall in my opinion, there are no inputs.

The board itself runs fine and the relays are pretty well rated, you have 8 to play with and they are all dry contact so free to wire as you please.

I guess this boils down to what you have in mind as a use case, simple timed or sequenced outputs are easy, wired to a PC as a relay card is also ok.

Options for input are now better than before, with the addition of USB-CDC and BlueTooth to the PicoMite we now have ways to provide inputs, as well as the WiFi option as mentioned above.

Waveshare also do a RS485 piggy back board that may work with this unit.

My own idea was to install a piggy back board with some inputs but other projects took over, it was a good test bed for experimenting with the early WebMite versions as they progressed.

Hope this helps.
Regards, Lyle.

G'day,
As a follow up to the above, the unit is now sitting in front of me and I can remember why the design leaves a bit to be desired.

As noted above, with the new USB-CDC and BT we now at least have some options to communicate with this, BlueTooth, Wifi and either USB as host or device.

Waveshare do RS485 and Pico-CAN-B piggy back boards for the Pico, however they are not "Plug and Play" with this unit, both boards are designed to sit below the Pico and this will not work with the relay board. They are also supplied with male/female "Thru" headers and with these fitted the assembly is too high for the lid to be re-fitted

The RS-485 is not really workable, the Pico-CAN-B can be made to fit if the headers are changed and it sits on top of a standard Pico, the Pico-W shielding can sits too high.

Once again, depends on what you have in mind to use it for.

Regards, Lyle.
